"The 777" Tasca Ford '63 lightweight Galaxie

Recommended Posts

Moving right along.....

I have committed to modifying the '63 interior tub due to the the unavailability of the MCW resin kit. So here we go!

The '63 tub is a pretty fair P.O.S and was produced as a convertible interior because who would know, right? 😏. My first task was to make it look like a hardtop interior by...well...look at the pictures. The part of the new rear seat-back is played by an obscure extra of unknown origin.

I grafted a piece of .020 sheet to build a foundation for subsequent construction and added a small piece of .030 inside for further reinforcement. IMG_5982.jpg.b548973ae52724c15d6354c368565cb8.jpg

Then the fun began with Mr. Dremel and his good friend Mr. Circular Saw.

There will be quite a bit of clean-up but, basically, the heavy lifting is done. The new details will be produced on sheet stock and then grafted to the smoothed interior. That's probably the easiest way to do that. Wish me luck 🥴

I often wondered if the interior was for a convertible as well? Not sure if the 63 came out with one though? As soon as you finish this interior part, the hardest thing will be behind you. Doing a great job on this project.

I was just looking through some of my model car pics, and actually I only have a few that I corrected the fender gap on. Mostly all of my builds the fender remains part of the entire car. Just started to realize this mistake recently, and started to correct it.

Yeah, I get it and I'm glad you brought it up. Gotta be more aware of this sort of thing. Thanks for coming by, Tom, your input is appreciated.

There must have been a ragtop as an annual. It clearly is a convertible interior because of the narrowed seat-back and the surrounding top rail bays. It's not the first one I've run into, Tom 🥴.

Yep. I just saw a few on there also. Makes sense now to just have one tub for both cars.

This is what my interior should look like:

Unfortunately it won't.  It will, however, look like this but in red:

IMG_5996.thumb.jpg.04658525f6703bc8d133da0958ab3aa5.jpgIMG_5997.thumb.jpg.8a4ce934d3a33343d1ef6c9797d58784.jpg

oh, c'mon....it won't look this bad. There's a 💩-ton of work to be done yet.  Lots of filling and sanding. Be patient 🙂. Another week or so.

The front seats are a total scratch-build using junk seat parts, cut up and not toasted. Right now this is what that looks like:IMG_5994.thumb.jpg.2afa65b5e7b6b54feb1bedd5c64c9ec3.jpgIMG_5995.thumb.jpg.5b6ba463402cc52fdda3d4198bfd3d34.jpgIMG_5998.thumb.jpg.568e7292f1ef7dca5fee6085038fc1d9.jpg

thanks for taking a peek 🫣.

Coming together nicely.

Still got a ways to go, Tom. I ve been neglecting my duties around the house 🥴.   Spending a lot of time in the garage with my Dremel.  More of that today. Oh well....🤓

I hear ya. I was away from the bench for about a year, as we just bought and totally renovated a house. Now I’m getting into work in my new model room. Still have to do vinyl flooring and underlayment in the remodeled basement but at least I have some model time.

Jim, I hear you loud and clear. Catching up with yard work all morning thanks to the sun being out. Three dogs and a lot of 💩to clean up. Now I’m tired and need to sit down.  Hurry up with those seats will ya👍

I have them for you, Lenny, just got 'em done. They will need some minor touch-up after primer but it got cold and rainy.  Thanks for checking in

Wifey and I just scuttled a guest bedroom  so we could set it up for our "hobbies".  It's working out well......and we have our dining room back 🙂

Got a bit more done today. The interior upholstery from scratch using my vast Evergreen stock. I don't hope to be accurate, only to create the illusion of the lightweight's interior, hitting the key points- maybe it will suffice. It's tedious and time-consuming and it's the only way. Thanks for stopping by.IMG_6010.jpg.899ecd4ec3ab34702583575772d179aa.jpg

It's a little janky but it'll be fine with some paint and foil....... trust me 🥴

And here it is in primer....see? Not so bad. I found some silicone molds that I made years ago and made some window cranks out of.... yup....Bondo 😄. I plan to seal them with clear lacquer or enamel and then hit 'em with Molotow after they have been installed. I will never understand why the 1:1 mfgrs. thought cranking a vent wing was something a driver would want to contend with. Powered maybe, but cranked? 🤔.....I dunno.

IMG_6015.jpg.a371186d3e2fdbbe92cecd98e0212340.jpg

so what now.....?  I guess I should get the frame and the floor top painted satin black and the floor bottom red oxide. I need to prep the body and order the paint. The fun continues....

Amazing work on the seats. Interesting way to do the window cranks, if I'm not mistaken doesn't this kit come with some good window cranks? BTW the seats door panels look really good to.

If you mean the '63, yeah they were OK but had to be removed in order to graft the new panels on top of the kit tub panels.  It's this (bondo cranks), or I make them from brass wire and slices of evergreen rod. I figured this was maybe a bit better so here we are. I still need to make door handles but that looks easy. 🥴

I just wish they didn't need to be so damd small.

Got a little more done today on the interior and painted it with a bottle of Testor's enamel. I opened what looked like a new, unopened bottle. It was full. It was also like a gummy worm. I managed to reconstitute it enough to shoot it through my Wren. This happens quite often despite my efforts to close the bottles tightly. But this one was new! 😬

I got some foil on one side and Molotow on the back seat. The dash is next after my neck eases up. Thanks for checking in.

Jim, I have used Bondic to make crank windows. Dries instantly under UV light and if you stick a small metal rod into it before you dry it you have a post to mount it with.

Yeah, I have that stuff. I got it years ago and found it somewhat useful for installing glass. I wonder if it's still good. 🤔  I'll try it. Thanks, Len, good idea! My guess is it's too old though.

A few more pix....waiting for photo-reduced speedo from BMP. Kit decal sheet actually provides two sets of guage faces but I'm waiting because Best is usually better(🥴).  The decal sheet also has some nice badges too and I may opt to remove the molded badging to facilitate polishing and use the decals on the finished surfaces. Thanks for looking.

still need to foil the driver side.  I've been avoiding it.  It makes my neck hurt. 😪

I really like what you've got going here, Jim. This is shaping up to be a fine build. I appreciate the sweating of the details. Very nice work.

Thanks, Trevor, it's not an easy one due to the limited photos of the actual 1:1.  There are plenty of photos of several different cars including restored examples but very precious few useful photos of the Tasca car.  To further complicate things, the crew made changes from time to time like wheels and such. I found a photo today that helps me locate the tach on the top of the dash.  I would like to find a view of the rear showing the lettering on the trunk lid. I need to see the font style so I can make a decal of it. I saw the car run at Charlestown, RI (when I was about 11) and recall seeing "SUIVEZ-MOI!" on the trunk lid.  I asked my dad (who spoke French quite well) what it meant. We both got a good laugh. "FOLLOW ME!" 🤣
