Hey again!

My WIP Dodge Dart is still waiting on some parts so in the meantime i decided to do another quick build. So next up is the 1970 Pontiac Firebird. Wont try to do anything fancy, just a simple out of the box build. However i do plan to try a special paint on it, but dont want to spoil anything ?
I already got it started - the body is sanded and ready for a primer coat.

Its so nice to finally be able to work outside too :D

Always liked the 2nd gen birds but preferred the Formula to the Trans Am.  I’m guessing this is the Revell kit and not a vintage MPC.
I have a vintage74 Formula waiting to be brought back to life. Have wondered if the REVELL kit would enhance the build.

Yup, its revell's. Havent really tried other kits so cant really comment on that. I do know the revell is 1:24 scale and MPC is 1:25. So dont know how much do they differ.

:D So, i usually start my models with building the engine first. This time, i decided to start with the body. Using period correct colors isnt really my thing so dont hate me ?

Wetsanded the body with 600 grit sponge. Then a coat of primer (the usual - surfacer 1000):

Then did some more sanding. And some more priming:

Then came the fun part ?
Coat of red undercoat:

After that, a candy red basecoat:

Maybe i should've done a black primer to get a darker look. But still pretty happy with how it turned out :D.

You would be better off using Amt's 70 camaro for a better undercarriage and maybe revell's 68 firebird for the engine.

So then this is probably derived from the old Monogram kit. I built one of those back in the day.

Thanks, I will make a note of it.

Ha, just yesterday I was thinking about putting this build in my rotation (have 66 Nova and '57 Chevy sedan going now).  And, gonna go red.

I really like the color and the quality of the paint job.    You did'nt say what brand paint you used.

The front end sits a bit high, so i'll have to do some modifications. But overall, not much left to do :D

I did screw up the taillights a bit, but overall looks pretty okay-ish :D Maybe i'll try some 2K clear on my next model, but we'll see.

Thanks for following along! On to the next model...
