This was an old kit I found. Fun build. The decals were old and yellowed. I put them in a sunny window and that bleached them out. They were still fragile and I tried to save them by applying Microscope liquid decal film. No luck, they still broke in a million pieces. I found a set on Mike's Decals and they worked great.

Side note: In the mid-60's an Uncle, Aunt and cousins of mine lived about 1/2 mile away from the Petty shop on the same road. Many times going to visit them we'd see Lee Petty in the front yard hitting golf balls (his house was next door to the shop).

Thanks to this forum I found Microsol and Mike's Decals.

Wow!!  Nice looking car!  I have the same kit on the bench and I am using the same decals from Mike's (Powerslide I think). I forgot to attach the tail light covers before paint so will have to do them later.  Did you do yours (taillight covers) in red, silver or Petty Blue?

I did them Petty blue. I found a video on YouTube (Petty Brothers Racing) that showed the back of one they restored and they were blue. I’m sure they restored it as original as possible.

Thanks Rick.  I will do the same.

Coolest story I found researching the car (and the birth of the hemis) was that they had to switch from the chrome wheels to painted because the tires would rotate on the chrome wheels when accelerating with the hemi, effectively breaking the bead.  The painted were a little rougher and alleviated the problem.

Really good job on that car Rick!!

Now that's a cool story! That motor is a beast! Thanks for sharing.
