gami8630 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 (edited) This car is a 1968 Ford Torino Cobra. The driver was David Pearson and the team was Holman & Moody, who were NASCAR Grand National Champions two years in a row in 1968 and 1969. This car was built once before, about five years ago, but it was not very well done, so I built it again this time. The last time I built this car I combined POLAR LIGHTS Ford Torino Talladega chassis with AMT Torino Cobra body, but this time I modified POLAR LIGHTS Ford Torino Talladega to recreate a normal-nose Torino Cobra. The Talladega body has had the top of the front body panel reshaped, the front nose cut, the position and shape of the fuel inlet changed and the height of the rear spoiler reduced. The rear window has been machined to match the window frame of the body and fitted to the body. The plain roof shape and low window were also a concern, so the shape and height were modified with reference to the body of AMT's Torino Cobra, but the result was somewhat unsatisfactory. The front grille was adapted from AMT's Torino Cobra parts, and headlamp covers and grille guards were fitted. The chassis has been shortened in the front section to fit the severed nose, the front suspension adjustment rod mountings have been modified and an oil pan guard added. The dashboard and fire extinguisher were diverted from junk parts from the Monogram kit. Decals were used from the POLAR LIGHTS kit, but due to the deterioration of the decals, some have cracked, and the roughness has become quite noticeable, but the overall atmosphere could be reproduced, so I have compromised in the appropriate places. The body colour was sprayed with Tamiya's TS-19 metallic blue and TS-21 gold. Edited June 5, 2024 by gami8630 12 1
Rattlecan Dan Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Nice photography of really nice build. Great job.
bobss396 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Very nice, I saw decals for another version, the car was solid blue.
gami8630 Posted June 9, 2024 Author Posted June 9, 2024 Thank you all!! I'm a little unhappy with the way the roof has been lifted and shaped, which has increased the angle of the A-pillar. But I think it was good practice for when I build another POLAR LIGHTS kit in the future. 1
Johnny Canuck Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Really nice job with this car and the body mods.
Coyote_6 Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I really love the whole thing, but the black chassis with the gold wheels looks really cool. Nice nice work. Steve
gami8630 Posted June 29, 2024 Author Posted June 29, 2024 Thanks, MarkJ, johnny Canuck. Every time I do build-up, I notice areas where I think "I should have done this", and I think this motivates me for the next build.

Incidentally, my car is a '2002 Subaru Impreza sports wagon with a blue body and gold wheels. Edited June 29, 2024 by gami8630
