ModelcarJR Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 My son picked this one up for me at Ollie's for my birthday. I didn't even know there was an Houston but my son informed me it was in Katy which is a western suburb about 60 miles from here. So he also bought a can of Icy Blue by Rustoleum (I don't really want to label it Testors as Rustoleum has ruined the paint). This is a very old kit with the hole in the engine for the metal axle although they have eliminated the screw posts. I am just building it box stock and if my son wants it I'll give it to him. I really don't build too many full size cars as I prefer to build muscle cars and sports cars. I foiled the Bonneville lettering on the side before paint and revealed the lettering with some lacquer thinner after painting the body with Icy Blue. No sense using good paint on this one. I've also rubbed it out a bit and have started on the foil finishing the foil at the rockers. The interior is black and I'll do a little detailing. It should come together pretty quick and keep my busy for a few days while I recuperate from a surgery last week. Thanks for looking! ? 6
TNT Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Looking good. I like the big old cars. Back in 80 a buddy had a 67.
ModelcarJR Posted June 25, 2024 Author Posted June 25, 2024 Thanks, Carl, Anthony, and Curtis! i appreciate your comments! Finished the foil on the body and also put the interior together. I didn't use foil in the interior and just used chrome pen. I painted in some wood and used the speedo decal and I'll call it good enough. I should be able to finish this one up in the next day or two. Thanks for looking! ?
bobss396 Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 I have a couple of those, the stock and custom versions. I built the stock one around 1967 and it was one of the first ones I used the old AMT spray paint on. Some sort of metallic red. Of course the chassis and interior were painted with the Testors #49 flat black brush paint. And silver for the accents.
ModelcarJR Posted June 26, 2024 Author Posted June 26, 2024 Thanks, Bob and David! I appreciate your comments! This old relic is done! You could do a lot of work to this one, but in the long run its not worth it to me. Just paint it, foil it, assemble it and put it on the shelf. More photos in the "Under Glass" section. 2
