Dr. Cranky Posted April 5, 2009 Author Posted April 5, 2009 Here are a couple of more pics . . . I think the bike is also going to have a few patina accents, done with patina acrylic paint and not with the Sophisticated Finishes chemicals . . . Here's a closer view . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 I finally got the front end finished and some final details added. It took me a long time to get the forks just right and aligned. Here are some progress pics . . . I was able to incorporate some pieces of chain on a few strategic places--I felt I needed to do that . . . bring in some brass . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 One of my favorite pieces so far on this bike is the headlight bucket and its details . . . The idea from the beginning was to capture the different possibilities with metalized paints and real metal parts . . . I think for the next one I will do more aluminum work on my lathe . . . yeah, right, like I know what I am doing with a lathe!
Dr. Cranky Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 I'm working on the handle bar details and some fork caps, but here are a better round of pics . . . stay tuned in for more progress . . .
cruz Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 This is really awesome my friend!!! Every detail and time has been well worth it!!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Thanks, Marcos, I really appreciate it the kind words. My advice to anyone who is thinking of scratch-building the forms is to really go slow and test-fit everything. Even then there's still a little bit of fenagling involved . . .
frozono Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 i am a big fan of the choppers. and i can tell you my friend this is a work of art. the details and the construction it is spectacular.... quip the excellent work...
Dr. Cranky Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 Thanks, maties, for the kind comments. I finally got the handlebars and controls ready for assembly. Stay tuned in for more progress . . . cheers.
Scott Colmer Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Great stuff here. A very entertaining piece! That paint is is awesome! Scott
Raul_Perez Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Virgil, That's really coming along nicely!! It reminds me of when I built the futuristic rat rod; I had so much fun crafting up that engine with all the bits and pieces from different stuff... Later,
Dr. Cranky Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 All right, friends, other than installing the cables, this one is done. In the bag. Finito. I had fun building it, that's for sure . . . The bars and handles are done, and some finishing accents were placed on the forks . . . some more watch parts . . . caps . . . etc . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Just a couple of more pics . . . this one is done. Now I can move on to some other unfinished projects . . . Thank you all for contributing comments and keeping this build energized.
MADmodelDOCTOR Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Great job, Cranky!. Really pretty cool. Nice plate
Dr. Cranky Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks you, gents. Yeah, I have to say this one was a bit of work, but it ended up being quite a bit of fun. Now, it's on to the next project!
Terror Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 This is just another Cranky masterpeice.Just when I thought I couldn't look at another one of these kits,I enjoyed watching your build. Now your probly gonna get cranky on me, but, honestly I don't care for the belt cover.I was hoping for a scratch piece is all.Still a killer build.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 You have a point, my friend. I too hate the belt covers that come with these bikes. I think I can scratchbuild one, that's for sure, and I think I will sooner or later. It too has been bugging me.
dryvr12 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 It really looks great; you can tell you put alot of work into that. I like the seat too, fits in well.
