Yesterday I received a call from one of my cousins' kids. She ran out of money on a trip to Mexico and needed $500.00 to get back home because she could not reach anyone in her family. The best part is that she missed pronounced my last name. It is hard to pronounce! I told her hold on let me get my credit card. Every 5 minutes I told her hold on I am looking for it. She finally hung up after an hour of this back and forth.

No One in my family, that I'd give money to anymore. Well, Almost no one.

And of the few left, none travel, or would be willing to call me and ask for money anyways.

My girlfriend for some reason gets them all the time on her Apple phone. Some real elaborate ones at that. She gets fake mail sent to her house, saying she is an owner of several companies in other countries. The local DA is looking into it now. I'm scam proof, since I am a cheap SOB at heart.

I have been threatened with arrest by the Local Sherrif, FBI, and IRS agents.  I could avoid arrest by giving them CC# Debit Card# or good all cash, to be picked today. I am still waiting to hear from the Nigerian Prince about my Million Dollar inheritance. It is despicable that these Blah, Blah, Blah, take advantage of the elderly.

The OP's description sounds exactly like one of the phone security ads depicting AI used to clone a relative's voice to ask for money.

I have read about that also.

I received calls from my Dad's brother and sister one evening when I got home from work a few years ago because they had both received calls that my parents were involved in a major accident in England and needed money to pay the hospital. My parents were never in England and were, in fact, traveling in their motorhome in the continental United States. (this was before cell phone days)The lengths these crooks will go to in finding potential victims is amazing.

Sad shape of the world. Every time a scammer gets caught they should be beheaded live on TV. I avoid this BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH just by not answering my phone unless it is the wife, daughter, or some one i may want to speak to. I figure if it is important they will leave a message.  I have never been one to talk on the phone anyway.

I rarely answer  calls from numbers I don't recognize. If it's important they will leave a message.

As said the sad thing there are people who get taken by these scams all the time.

Thing is, fellers, the originating number can be spoofed and you'll never know it.

I've received calls from my own number...on the same number. How dumb is that?

Thieves may be "tech-savvy", but a lot of 'em are morons too.

Of course they never leave a message. I get that too. It's either spoofed caller ID's of people we don't know, towns & states, Company names with different numbers every time they call and the list goes on.

Threaten me with jail... 3 hots and a cot... I tell them I'll be waiting on my front steps to come and pick me up.

You have a Nigerian prince for a relative too??  And here I thought I was the only one!  Say, maybe we’re related!?

About a month ago, "Peter", from the local power company sent me a text saying they'd be at the house in 45 minutes to remove my meter unless I texted back and paid an outstanding bill. I still have my meter and money.

You two are fakes, I am the REAL relative of the Nigerian prince AND I also have connections to an oil production company in Saudi Arabia. When that money gets here, I can buy all the models I have ever wanted, maybe even get some manufactured that I have missed in the past.
