Incredible details, love following your build

Thanks, Jeff - getting harder to add the smaller details, though, as this build gets closer to the end!

Still one more thing to do before the truck gets up on its tires and that is to hook up the front plow lift cylinder.  Managed to get the fittings and lines attached, and had to make a change there, too.  Didn't mount the cylinder in place yet, but did get a couple pics of it in place for time being.

Had made the lift cylinder some time ago, but needed to add fittings for hydraulic hoses - fittings are from R & B Motion

Hoses attached -

A couple mock up pics of lift cylinder in place, temporarily (need to change the oversize band holding hoses together)

Should be more tomorrow - take care!

That cylinder looks perfect Brian. Well done.

Thanks, Lee - it was another one of my ‘do-overs’ before it looked good!

I mentioned a few posts back that I had/needed to make a change with the hydraulic lines to the front plow lift cylinder.  I messed up a when originally laying out and running all the lines from the valve manifold - the lines running to the front plow were too big for scale and just didn't look ok coming through the front bumper.  The lines I have attached to the cylinder now are a better look for scale, but now I have two different size lines to match up.  I learned from Craig, a Mechanical Supervisor at YRB, that the company now uses bulkhead fittings to get through the bumper assembly, and Jeff was able to find a confirming picture of this as well.  My 'story' is that a new practice was incorporated into an older front bumper assembly that was already in inventory when the truck was built!

Last couple pics of 2024! -  Sample bulkhead fitting I need to fashion:

started on the bulkhead fitting  - the scribed lines indicate the size of part of the existing bumper opening and the rest of the material will be a flange to CA glue the fitting plate to the back of the bumper

Happy New Year Brian. The way it looks your modeling for next will be awesome. It’s good to have Jeff on here for our Snow plow questions who knows I may build a little window Peterbilt in 1/43 scale 😂

Wow Brian, just wow… Tremendous amount of beautiful details throughout this build.  Very impressive.

Thanks, Steve - glad you stopped by and I appreciate the comments!  Hope to get all the plow attachments re-assembled and ready to go on the truck once the cab and hood modifications are made, soon!

Bit more done today - finished up the bulkhead fitting and, while waiting for some ordered fasteners to assemble the front plow lift, I worked on the front plow itself.  I needed to add a length of rubber to the top, front edge of the plow - this rubber strip helps direct the snow back down.

Just need to paint the fitting, glue it in place, attach the hoses behind the bumper plate and wait for some fasteners before hooking up the lift cylinder hoses to the front of the fitting

Hard to see, but there is a 0.2mm, aluminum strap that is taped to a guide for drilling bolt holes.  I'll be using it to 'bolt' down the rubber deflector across the top edge of the plow.  I'm hoping this aluminum works - should do the trick, but sure is easy to bend out of shape!

Rubber deflector CA glued in place.  Will be using 0.8 mm aluminum bolts to secure aluminum strip, through the rubber, to the plow edge.  Aluminum strip has been painted and drying out in the shed

Not a lot today, but still making progress - take care!

Brian that rubber defector is looking convincing and the fittings you did are  a nice clean fit. Great work as always.

The rubber flap looks great. They worked well for keeping snow and slush from coming over top of the plow at speed and covering the windshield or all over the hood and into the grille and plugging air intakes mostly on the single axles. Although if one exceeded plow speeds it didn’t matter. The flap would flip back and the truck got covered …… an old tried and true Highways design.

Thanks, Pete - appreciate the compliment!  I should have painted it before I glued the aluminum fittings to the plate!

Thanks, Jeff - just about ready to put the whole plow/pushframe/lift assembly together - will be another milestone!

Yeah us old Road Drivers called that a “Rooster Tail” and the Plow driver driving like that was a idiot and just made the road worse. I mostly witnessed this very late at night or the wee hours of the morning when no one was around to see this.

Your welcome Brian and it’s Lee not Pete 😂

My apologies!  I did that with Jeff a long time ago - it won't happen again.,
