Horrorshow Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 I had been waiting a long time for these decals, finally was able to purchase a set. Used a Revell Bill Elliot kit. The body had a warp in it, but nothing major. This paint scheme was only run once at the 1997 finale at Atlanta. I don’t know who manufactured the decals, I had some major issues. Where the red and white colours meet, there should be a silver pin stripe. The first one disintegrated. I applied microsol, but it didn’t help. Since there was no bleeding from the two paint colours, I decided to go ahead without the silver stripes. I applied microsol to the large Winston hood decal and all the silver ran, ruining it completely. The grouped contingency decals broke apart. Luckily I found another set on EBAY and was able to complete the kit. 5 1
Nacho Z Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 I remember when Jimmy ran this car and his Camel cars. Nice job on this! It is a shame about the decals.
bobss396 Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 Decals make or break a stock car build. But you nailed it. I had an uncle that worked for Winston for a long time, he got "free" smokes for years, guess what killed him?
Rattlecan Dan Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 Nice job, in spite of all the difficulties. Cool-looking ride.
MarkJ Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 Jack, even though the decals made for a tough finish to the build you did a great job using them anyway. The build itself is topnotch and one to be proud of. Thanks for posting this rare Jimmy Spencer ride. He was one of my favorite drivers and I really need to build one of his cars. I actually was there at Talladega when he won there in July of 1994. My only trip to that track. He beat his teammate Bill Elliot at the finish line if I'm remembering correctly. 1
ncbuckeye67 Posted August 16, 2024 Posted August 16, 2024 That paint scheme is awesome, but it looks like a P.I.T.A. hot mess decal nightmare. I'm glad to see you did not give up on building the car, it looks great!
