slant6 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I was just talking to a friend who has just discovered the power of future. He loves it, but he usually builds military style models. He is trying to fininsh up a batmobile model that he has been working on.....a long, long time. I remember seing it about 13 years ago or so. He was wondering about using future for a less glossy shine, especially on tires. We were thinking about cutting it with rubbing alcohol. Would that do the job? He's looking for a slightly more than semi-gloss finish. any suggestions?
Jantrix Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I recommend painting the black with an automotive lacquer and just leaving it at that. Lacquers have a natural semi-gloss finish. A gloss coat and/or polishing is normally needed to get a great shine from lacquer.
Brendan Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Any time you want to dull paint, use talcum powder or baby powder and mix it in. And then shoot it on with an air brush. Be careful how much talcum you put in as it can turn clear paints into a hazy white. This is an old modeler's trick. I have used this several times when I have run out of dull coat...or needed a gloss paint to be flat.

Airplane and armor modeling have been putting Future under decals for years, then overcoat with flat. Gary
