hey guys, so i’m going to have to ship a built model to europe and i’m concerned how foam may affect my paint.

i currently use mr.color clear lacquers and after doing some tests on “cured” paint it seems to damage the finish. my question is will 2 part clear be impervious to damage while being in contact with foam for long period of time?

thanks

any other suggestions on how to pack it would be great also

Basically wrap the cars in paper shop towels ( tis can be bought at Lowes and is actually not paper but rag material, though tearable) or cotton linen. Then you can use foam or whatever you want from there. Bubble wrap perhaps. But you have that protective rag layer between the paint and cushion material.

I tend to plastic bag mine, kitchen bags, 1 gal freezer bags etc., give an extra layer. And I don't use much clear coat, certainly not 2K,

DO NOT attempt to protect the model with a protective layer of food wrap such as Glad Wrap or Saran Wrap. A few years ago I bought a lot of 14 built kits, all 'protected' with a layer of food wrap. The food wrap stuck to the paint and peeled it off every kit. These kits were not 2K cleared, but I would avoid it nonetheless.

i have shipped many high dollar builds..if the paint is cured this should work for you...never use paper towels to wrap a model they to stiff, and never use Bubble wrap as a packing material. first wrap the model in toilet paper. (not none of the John Wayne paper ether its to stiff) Angel Soft will work fine..once you have did this set it in a small trash bag and seal it up...make sure your box is big enough for shipping. buy you some styrofoam packing peanuts and add about 3 inches to the bottom. put the model in and fill up the sides and top well. ( you need at least 3" on the side & top as well)  make sure when you close the lid shake the box.  it the model feels loose add more peanuts.hope this helps..
