Before recently re-starting model building, I had spent a lot of spare time making replica First Nations artifacts.  All my project ideas came from auction and museum sites. Never shown these outside of family or friends, and don't sell them - just for a personal collection.  I have huge respect for those who created original work of this type, under far less ideal conditions than I worked in, at my workbench, with lots of light and a magnifying desk lamp!

Read lots about other hobbies in various threads in this Off-Topic Lounge, and my past hobby certainly has nothing to do with models, but I'll post a pic of one of my projects (I can post others along the way) and would be interested to see pics of your "other hobbies", too.

Awesome work you guys are doing!

As some of you know, my other love is music.  I’m passionate about guitar, and currently trying to put a garage band together with a few friends.  It’s taking a lot of time away from modeling, but it’s worth it to me.

I like to take it a step farther than just playing music though.  I also enjoy building guitars, amps, and any other part of the signal chain.  It’s a rewarding feeling to make music through gear that you created.

Here are a couple of past projects that I built.

Custom Jackson with black limba body.  I spent six months hand applying and rubbing out the finish on this one.  It’s my pride and joy.

Mojotone one watt Marshall clone.  Sounds like a quieter version of a jcm900.  All hand wired.

I have a few hobbies that I don't have time for.

Obviously building models.

Guitar - I play, I hot rod, I build. I occasionally jam with friends. I don't play nearly as much as I should be playing, or want to be playing.

Reading - I read a lot.

Camping/hiking - Almost every weekend, once the lawn is mowed and other jobs are done, we're in the truck and taking off somewhere to go hiking or camping. Even if it's only for a single night. It's why I'm rarely here on the weekends.

And my old 1999 Tahoe has now become my project vehicle. My son has been using it for getting back and forth to university, and it needs some help. An incident in an icy parkade means I get to learn how to do some body work. Plus, it's getting old and rust spots are forming. And I'll need to do some mechanical repairs; brakes, front end, rear suspension. We got the boy a new ride, and the Tahoe is now parked, so I'll be slowly teaching myself how to fix all the things.

I use to do brakes all the time when I was young and worked in a muffler shop.
I   Also collect  hot wheels and matchbox cars. I still have the ones from when I was a kid….

Small world, indeed, Kyle!  Like your Strike-a-Lite and knife sheath.  Did you age the tin cones and dye the deer hair yourself?  Could never find reasonably aged cones for sale.  A couple more I made a few years ago…

Elementary school band, trumpet was as close as I ever got to making music.  Great respect for people who create “Beautiful Noise”, as Derek Trucks says
