Jonathan Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Gifted to me by my Brother-in-law for Christmas 2023. The AMT Munster's Koach. Note the plastic tires. And the one piece body - lots of masking for this one. So far, after multiple sessions with Tamiya tape and low tack Frog Tape, here is what I have (Tamiya gloss, matt, seme-gloss, and Nato black). It's hard to see the different sheens, but it's there: Now to paint the curtains, interior, and the rear doors ... 4
stavanzer Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Looks Good, so far. The Multiple shades of black will look better when it is closer to done. 1
Jonathan Posted September 1, 2024 Author Posted September 1, 2024 Thank you all. Question - what would be the best way to replicate the "gold" or "brass" trim? I've used Tamiya lacquers for the body, and Tamiya acrylics for the curtains.
Jonathan Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 (edited) Answering my own question, so maybe it's the wrong answer I had some Alclad II Candy Golden Yellow. Trying that over the kit chrome, and I get this, which I think is close enough for my purposes: Edited September 3, 2024 by Jonathan 5
Jonathan Posted September 26, 2024 Author Posted September 26, 2024 Been a little while since I've been at the workbench. I managed to get the pinstripes on, after several attempts. I used Bare Metal Gold Foil, and promptly removed the gold coloring when I polished over the trim. Oops. 2
hedotwo Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Nice progress Jonathan! Who doesn't love the Munsters? ? 2
Jonathan Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 A few updates. Hopefully, I'm close to putting this on the shelf. For the pinstripes, I airbrushed Alclad II Candy Golden Yellow over the entire car, and ended up with this: And now I'm getting close to actually finishing: 7

RockinRoller Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Hi, visit the original car at Dezerland/Florida in 2023... didn´t know that it was the real thing when I stand in front of it! But I took pictures... The AMT kit had many issues... OK - not really because it was meant to be a fun project for the kids back then. AND it needs to be "buildable"... for us aduld modellers it is sometimes a shame when things are so much details got lost in this process. But it stands for what it was -> a fun project that reflects the correct "Zeitgeist" as we say in Germany. I tried it more than 2 times to build that Drag-U-La the right way... everytime it ends up half done in the box and got traded/sold. I think sometimes we must let things go their way they meant to be and get things done. Hope you understand me...;-) Nice work, nice ideas in craftmanship and solutions!!! Greetings from Berlin/Germany Oliver

And yes, this kit has a lot of issues when compared to the "real" car, but it was a fun build, and people seem to recognize it right away for what it is supposed to be
