Jeff, that's quite the trick with tooth paste as an abrasive - it sure seems to work.  Will definitely make touch ups less of an issue.  I admire you and Ron for doing two tone paint jobs - a single colour can sometimes be a handful for me, never mind two!

Thanks Brian. It just doesn’t look as good in the photos as it does in real life. But hopefully I can fix that. The nice thing about the tooth paste thing is , it is easily controlled and comes in various abrasive grades. For a small touch ups it seems to work quite well.  Thanks for checking in and your valued comments.

Next step … just dropped the 318 in …. Still a LOT of dirt and oil to add BUT I did mount the engine as per conversation on previous posts , Under the motor mounts rather than over top and the fit was great and all fit as advertised ……

I had heard of guys polishing their paint with tooth paste, but first time I seen someone use a Q-tip to control removal, great tip. Looking good.

Another small update,  more to let you guys know I am still puttering away at this. Finished up installing the fuel lines and shift linkage…..and then I did some decaling. Normally or rather in the past I had always done decaling last and had fallen into that tradition ( read habit ) when I was a kid building models and never stepped out of that habit until now …. Anyway As an idea to make a demarkation line between the green and white , I thought of using the decal stripes from the re-issue Freightliner cab over. The decals have just been put on in the last few hours and are still curing , I was hopeful that the decals would cover any boogers from any sloppy masking. Over all I am quite pleased with the overall result. Also a little paint came off the rad cover and I was going to touch it up , but got to thinking and maybe might leave it as that is what a work truck may have along with the little bit of broken stripe I cud fix, but may not ….. and as a mast little detail to mention, I opened the drivers window and rolled down the passenger side about  half way …… still lots to do but getting close to the last lap  ….

Good idea with the decals and I like the subtle weathering on your frame.  Are the tags on your tanks PE or are they decals, too?  (the weld beads look great also!)

Those stripes look fantastic! Well done! I also rolled down the driver side window on mine, makes it easier to see the interior.

Thanks Brian, the pics always look WAY better on my phone than on the computer…. There is more weathering to do to bring it all together. The frame is just barely started. All I have done so far is added a little light rust wash…. I am going to try and filter the frame by adding green pigments mixed with just a touch of white to lighten it up a bit to replicate use, then the oil and mud ….. or just dirt … the fuel tank tags are p/e that came with the CTM Hayes up grade set.  Still a mountain more to do…. Ron and I were neck and neck on our builds but he seemed to have passed me in turn 3 and put me 2 laps down as he is over the finish line already. And it looks like I need fuel and tires ….. As long as I don’t tale a pass thru penalty …..

Thanks my friend….. the stripes turned out better than I initially hoped. I think they look period correct and even though they were for a Freightliner, they applied quite well here. The frame so far, has only a very light wash of oxidation ( read light rust ) but still needs more hours of somewhat careful and methodical weathering and ‘filtering’. How about that for technical talk ????

First off, that was very impressive, the way you used all those three syllable words in the same sentence?

The chassis and drivetrain look great my friend! The detail on the tanks is really paying off.
