styromaniac Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Revisiting a sports car build I wanted to modify for the quarter mile strip...I discovered this pair of soft vinyl slicks...with crisp M&H Racemaster lettering. I pulled them from somewhere...cuz they looked about as bad ass as a scale slick could look...without being over the top cartoonish. Wanting to complete the build I hope to identify the source ...especially if I want to source them again from the mountain of kits in my mancave. Any help from you knowledgeable modelers would be much appreciated. P.S. Actual measurements of each slick are 1-5/16 inches in diameter with about a 5/8 inch opening , and a 1/2 thickness....making it one of the largest slicks Ive come across in 1/25 scale ( probably why I pulled them from a kit years ago )
Can-Con Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 The webbing in the center makes me think "MPC" ,, maybe one of their front engine dragsters?? 1

OK...I have two or three MPC kits in my stash...think I'll check those kit boxes to see if I grabbed them from there. Thanks for the tip !

Mark Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 They are MPC, and we're used in a couple of their front engine dragster kits like the Ramchargers car. Not used in any funny car kits I'm aware of, but they were also used in the Malco '60 Corvette and Multi Maverick. Also the '71 and '72 Dodge Sportsman van kits that had the dual engine setup.

You're right Mark. I dont have many MPC kits...but the first box I checked was the Ramchargers dragster I bought many many years ago and evidently I put the beefy slicks from that kit in my build box. I also checked my MPC More American Graffiti Milner dragster kit...they're Goodyear Blue Streak Dragway Specials...so it was definitely the Ramchargers dragster. I knew the knowledge and experience on this Forum would narrow it down...thanks Steve & Mark !
styromaniac Posted October 25, 2024 Author Posted October 25, 2024 ....now to choose some nifty racing wheels to go with them...maybe something period correct ...from the mid to late sixties to early 70's.
