gtx6970 Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 (edited) Ok, short version of long story In fear of having issues with slixx decals I cleared over them with Testors Wetlook clear ( All I had here for the time ) I have no local source for Testors, But have one for Tamiya . Are both clears a Lacquer Paint is rattle can Duplicolor red in the larger touch up cans Ive used both clears on said base paint before with no issues. So the body paint I have no concerns But Can I use the tamiya clear on this build with the decals having been cleared with Testors on them with no issues Is the new Testors Extreme Lacquer and Testors One coat clear same as the old Wet look ? ,,,just different label Edited October 30, 2024 by gtx6970
stitchdup Posted October 30, 2024 Posted October 30, 2024 has any of the area you did the painting in got any overspray? you could use it for a test if there is some 1
gman Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Testors Extreme Lacquer clear and Testors One Coat Lacquer clear are similar as far as I can tell, but not identical. I don't remember which it happened with, but one of the two went on thicker and seemed to bubble after hitting the surface as if it was sprayed too close and propellant was caught in the clear (it wasn't sprayed too close). I went through several cans of the One Coat, and if memory serves correctly I suspect it was the newer Extreme Lacquer that wasn't cooperating. The Duplicolor should be "hotter" than the hobby lacquers, but If you have any leftover paint I second the testing idea. The Tamiya clear sometimes doesn't play nice over decals and metallic base coats, so thin coats with ample time to flash before heavier coats would be a good idea.

NO issues Thanks again Is now cleared and set aside to cure for a few weeks, Then will take a light hand polish to it Im on a prep, paint and decal a bunch of bodies for a while. As I have a boatload of decals I want to use up before they get any older Word to the wise for anyone who wants to build this particular car using the current MPC kit. The decals take some work to fit, even then not perfect . I think they were designed for the Johan kit 1
