Pete68 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) Thanks to Jürgen for his inspiration of his Tanker Build to finally get this build I’ve been wanting to do for several years on the bench. I needed a good size project to soak up the winter months as my current 1/43 scale projects are winding down and I think I found it. I’ll be using a fresh 1/43 AMT Peterbilt kit converting it into a 289 with some modifications. The Truck and Doubles decals I bought over 25 years ago from Ken Goudy now Graphics on demand I copied them on waterslide paper years ago. The tanker bodies I got in a trade years ago from P&P resin and the Dolly I bought from Don Mills. The suspension and ladders are from the new Atlantis White Tanker and Revell kit. The wheels, tires, air tanks, and dollies are from my 1/43 AMT parts box I have and as I go along I’ll be adding more aftermarket details. Hope you ride along and “Please No Smoking”😂. Pete68 Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 This evening I worked on Pup # 1 things are going pretty smooth right now hope it last through out the whole build. Added the suspension ,axle housing and air chambers/slack adjusters from the AMT Reefer trailer. I cut it down and made a single axle out of it. Next I cleaned the bottom of the tank by cutting and sanding all the garbage off it and added some styrene to hide the hole where the screw goes. Next I cut the rear ICC Bumper out some Chanel Styrene I had and added it. Then made a Fifth Plate not done with it yet had to do a mock up to make sure all things are pretty level. Looks good to me and that’s it for tonight. The Peterbilt 289 I’m using is a future build and not truck I’m using for this build. The truck was just handy for now. 3

Jürgen M. Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I can imagine! It's fun rediscovering old skills! I've printed so much in the meantime that I at first didn't even think of scratch building the tank. OK, there was a lot of printing involved too but the tank itself was a little revival. Very nice looking build! Very neat and clean work! 2
trick my mixer Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I use to work at Lee and Eastes. Drove tanker their for awhile. looking forward to this build. 2
Rockford Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Great work mate. Looking good. You're recreating one of the unsung heroes. Really looking forward to seeing how this comes out. The tractor you used as a mule looks great too, great colour combination. That kit is just so right, I understand why you like it so much. 2
BK9300 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Very good progress for that bench session, Lee - it’s nice to have a couple or three hours back to back - can get lots done! 2

Thanks for stopping by. That’s pretty neat you worked there. This might be a fictitious Rig I know they have Truck and Pup combos starting in the 1930s till present day but this combination I don’t know I can’t find anything on the web if they did. I know some western companies ran this type of set up but not for certain if they did so do you know if they did or didn’t run these I would appreciate it. 1

Yes it is the truck has just enough details and builds like the 1/25 scale to satisfy someone who don’t have a lot of self space or room for a bunch of models. Yes you don’t here much about Lee & Eastes they been around for 101 years now and what a Legacy. They’re one of my favorites of the Western Frieght/ Tank lines. 1

Thanks Brian and yes your right it’s good therapy and I can’t believe I covered that much ground. I haven’t done any scratch building for years now felt good to revive them.
