absmiami Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 The width is the critical dimension - the Lotus 25 monocoque was 28 inches wide - got it …
MarkJ Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Now you're making my head hurt, Andrew with this talk about removing a scale inch. If I tried that I would remove 5 inches before I could stop and have to get a new kit and start over. Trouble is I could never be able to find and purchase the first kit to begin with. Superior work as usual.
absmiami Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Gracias MJ the white casting will be the Indy Lotus 29 monocoque - and the gray casting - for the 25 - is based on the same casting - with reduced length and width … clear as mud ??
absmiami Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Or more …. But only with help of a member of the resin castors Hall of Fame …
absmiami Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 Using two diamond coated flat files to shape the round bottom of the monoque - removes the resin faster than traditional files - now to the suspension pick-ups -
MarkJ Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I believe that is worth a major "YUP". How will you fill in that horizontal crevice right below the driver's compartment?
absmiami Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 The water and oil pipes run through those channels - remember - the radiator had both a water and oil section -
absmiami Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 https://permagrit.com/# Dept of Corrections the files are coated with tungsten Carbide - this is the good stuff ...
absmiami Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 Trimmed width fr Lotus 29 toe box to match width of the 25…
absmiami Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 Gunze Mr Surfacer - out of the bottle - will be used to eliminate the file marks on the surface - with some putty for a larger error on the base of the casting
absmiami Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 Using the base of this steel cutter to gouge a ridge on the edges of the monocoque -
MarkJ Posted January 12 Posted January 12 That Mr. Surfacer looks like a great product. The Vallejo primers I have been using don't sand out very well. It kind of balls up instead of sanding smooth. The Vallejo paints polish out well though. I don't understand why their primers don't. Can't wait to see some paint on these babies.
absmiami Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Gracias MJ Strips of Evergreen are CAd onto the ridge - they form the lip that secures the eng cover - the 29 roll bar was attached to the front of the Ford engine - the roll bar on the 25 was attached to posts on the monocoque - so i’ve got to make these - more bits of Evergreen - for what i’m hoping is a casting for a Lotus 25 …
absmiami Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 Notice that the posts have holes in them - thats because oil and water lines ran right thru them on their way to and from the engine - so just how secure was the roll bar mounted ?? ??
absmiami Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 The pedal box is topped with a panel that holds the pedal brackets and opens either side for the rocker arms … evergreen strip and L shaped strip …
absmiami Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 The rocker arms are pinned / bolted to the ends of the structure left and right -
Pierre Rivard Posted January 14 Posted January 14 That roll bar was VERY secure.... for a Lotus. 🧩 Don't feel like you have to glue everything in place... it's a Lotus
absmiami Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 There’s alot going on here - the panel is opened for the pedals - they are suspended fr two brackets - then i drilled holes for the brake and clutch fluid reservoirs - these are white metal - but they are not fr the kit - long story ..
absmiami Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Whats next - maybe the rocker arms, the pedals, and or the steering rack ?! 1
Pierre Rivard Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Lovely fabrication Andrew. Fair to assume the top cover of the body and nose cone will be removable to show these finely crafted elements?
absmiami Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Yup - one of the neat features of the 1 1/2 era GP cars is that they all came apart to reveal all of their … stuff …
