Falcon Ranchero Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 anyone know out of curiosity the colour of this paint and which brand of spray can it would be; I heard it was a duplicolour but unsure the actual colour name.

That’s the actual Ford “Chestnut” color. I’ll check my paint stash and see if I happen to still have a can of the Duplicolor color that I used on my friend’s ‘62. Steve 1 1
Monty Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Steve, if you or he can't come up with that paint, how close is Ford's Indian Fire Red?

Well, I doubt that the color on the Mustang would be any easier to find in a spray can than correct “Chestnut”. That said, there’s no doubt that either color would be available From MCW or Scale Finishes in air brush lacquer. As a matter of fact, I know that Chestnut is available from MCW, because I made an attempt at using that color on a project some years ago. Steve 1
Monty Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 MCW probably offers Indian Fire Metallic in a lacquer, which I know you prefer. They also have it in enamel https://www.ebay.com/itm/225214195940 That said, it sounds like you solved the puzzle by identifying the period-correct color. I posted my answer just in case yours wasn't readily available.
StevenGuthmiller Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Hi Nathan. I found the paint that I had used on the ‘62 that is in question. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Duplicolor, but Tempo touch up paint, which I doubt is any longer available. Steve 1

Steve Well that's ok; like you stated earlier the actual Chestnut colour is available from MCW which would make for a more authentic build anyway. I just wanted to know the colour beforehand so if I ever do find the kit I won't be scrambling to find the correct colour. Thanks for the help I appreciate it. 1
Carmak Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 (edited) Has a Chestnut 63 Country Sedan a number of years ago. It was an original pint car except for that shaggy rear qtr. that was repainted after a light bender when the car was fairly new. The original owner custom ordered the car as Chestnut was not a standard production color on wagons in 63. Edited December 19, 2024 by Carmak 1

That car has such a cool look to it. 1
LennyB Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Well I found a resin transkit on ebay of the '63 wagon and I went ahead and pulled the trigger. It's made by Vic's Resin and I have to say it's a throwback to the resin of the 80's. Very rough body, thick around the edges, side trim is very faint, going to take a lot of work to make it presentable. Looking at pics of the real car I may be better off turning it into a Country Squire with the wood trim. What have I done to myself?

He has transkits of the '63, '64, and '66 wagons. I have a '66 Squire in the stash and it is very nice. I don't remember if the '63 is Sedan / Squire, but the '64 and '66 are available both ways. I know that you are a Ford guy, but please remember that the donor kit chassis are not correct for wagons and need some surgery on the "trunk" floor, fuel tank location, and spare tire storage to be accurate. Exhaust on the '66 donor isn't correct for a wagon either.

If you need build inspo for a Country Squire, there's this super nice one that has been for sale for ages, probably 'cause $55,000 is a large sum to spend on a wagon, but it's pretty outstanding 1963 Ford Country Squire | Classic Cars | Guelph | Kijiji Classifieds

Save him as a seller. He posts resin every couple weeks or so. He is a member here as well, but I don't know how often he visits. When I posted my '66 in the "What did you get" thread, I got an apologetic message from him, saying that he had sent the old style seats with my kit and he had some redesigned ones. He immediately sent me the updated seats. Upstanding guy IMHO.
