chris coller Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Sorry about the title. Just having fun a bit. My question is has anyone ever had a problem with tyhe primer over a resin body? I purchased a Comp Resin body at the NNL EAST brought it home sanded the body to knock the texture of the body. Then I washed the body using Dawn dish soap. My problem is the paint is still tacky in certain spots and completely dry on the rest of the body. Any thoughts?

In my experience with the resin bodies I have purchased and resin parts I have cast myself, is that the first thing you do before any prep, other than trimming the flash, is to soak your parts and spray the body with "Wesleys Bleach White", and let them sit about an hour. Silicone residue is on the surface and needs to be removed. I think guy's here use other things that they say works good too. I've never had a problem with Wesleys, and I DO USE DUPLI-COLOR PRIMER OVER RESIN WITH BEAUTIFUL RESULTS.
Zoom Zoom Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) It's also possible that it's a problem w/the resin itself. How well did you clean it before spraying? Dawn isn't strong enough for some mold releases, but if there's any silicone contamination it would be causing fisheye problems. Edited April 23, 2009 by Zoom Zoom
Randy Kern Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Chris, I use Dupli-Color primer exclusively, and have found also, different resin casters need different cleaners. The parts and bodies I've bought from Norm Veber and Modelhaus both only need a dish detergent, but most others need to have the Westley's treatment. I've just recently had to do this with my '65 Chevy wagon body from Modelhaus, but using a Drag City Castings hood.
chris coller Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 Thanks guys. The only thing that strikes me as odd is this is the only time out of the 5 or 6 resin projects I have worked on using pretty much the same methods. Oh well back to the drawring board. I will make something out of this.
4BKT VET Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I have an older F&F Resin car I am ready to paint. I wonder if the same is true about brand specific resin parts. I was told by an experienced chrome technician that the F&F stuff doesn't take chrome well. They gave me a reputable modelhouse for a grill and bumper because of the resin casting quality and type. Anyone had experience painting the old F&F stuff?
RodBurNeR Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 All I use is Dupli Color and have used it on resin and plastic.....no problems.
