Simo5555 Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 Painted the headlights Then did some scribbing And then.... 2 hours of trying to get the white lines straight 2
Simo5555 Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 So, into the booth it went Did my first coat of paint. Very first layer or paint: Then another, and another, and another..... And heres how it came out Will let it dry for a day or two before it goes back to the paintbooth again and gets its final coat of paint 5
Simo5555 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Aaaaaaand............. its painted Definitely not the easiest paint to spray - quite a challenge to get it down smoothly. But oh boy does it look good in the end 5
Funkychiken Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Fantastic paint job! Shame the doors have to be glued shut... 1
Simo5555 Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 A bit of tape work And some paint work And did some progress 4
Simo5555 Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Got the body clearcoated 😁 Definitely worth it Will let it dry for a while now. 4
BK9300 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Your trim painting look exceptional! Do you ‘over tape’, then trim back with X-acto knife like you would do with Bare Metal Foil? Looks great. 1

Afterwards I usually follow along the cut lines with a plastic pick from a Victorinox Swiss army knife 😁 Its a nice soft thin pick - works really great. Better than using fingernails 1 2
Andrew McD Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Really cool build, looks gorgeous! I had no idea Revell produced a McLaren 570.....might have to have a go at this one....eventually. 1

Simo5555 Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Didnt get much done this week. Work took its time 🙃 But did the windows/glass trim painting 😁 Not much left to do 2
Nacho Z Posted February 9 Posted February 9 She is beautiful, Simo! I may have missed it, but I could not find if you said what color the body is. Is it a clear orange over the base? It is a stunning color for sure.

I have Gravity Colors' McLaren Volcano Orange. They call it a tri-coat color. Is that what you used? Regardless, that color you laid down in just gorgeous! 1
Simo5555 Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Yup, the very same one from gravity colors. Theres two versions of it - the older one had a pearl silver with clear orange and newer one had pearl gold with clear red. 1
Simo5555 Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 So, first the bad news......... Noticed that the area just below the windscreen is supposed to be black. Somehow i thought the windshield itself will cover it and left it unpainted. So i taped the area and decided to paint it black. This was at the time i was having some issues with my airbrush. So, the end result came out badly - the paint itself was really grainy and uneven. Also noticed that the clear coat dry At the time, i couldnt figure out why (later found out it was duy to some paint in my airvalve and nozzle). When i took the tape off, i nicked the clear a bit too. To say i was bummed out is an understatement...... After some digging around, taking it apart, cleaning etc, i got my airbrush to spray nicely again. It had wrecked the paintjob of two of my models already so didnt want to pick it up for awhile. But decided not to give up - so i'm going to do the paintjob again. Got another kit for decals and started again. This time, with a properly working airbrush. So, stripped the paint, sanded it again and reprimed it. Feeling pretty good
Simo5555 Posted February 23 Author Posted February 23 Yay! My airbrush is knackered 😁 This was probably why it wasnt spraying properly before. So i ordered a new nozzle and needle so all should be good when it arrives. But until then, airbrushing will be on hold. Its actually not hopless - the flared out nozzle actually works pretty good with thicker paints. So i might use it for primer and clearcoats while it works. So, did some more painting. The body got another coat of black primer Then it was the metallic gold again following the transparent red. Goddamn, it glitters really awesomely under the sunlight 😎 3
Simo5555 Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Yay! Airbrush is fixed again 😁 Body and trim is painted. Decals are done. Only needs clearcoat now 2
beeRS Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Shame about the trouble you had with the airbrush, but glad to see you persevered and the finished model looks fantastic.
