Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Welp long story but here goes: I used to build often with all the bells, resin, photo etch, detail parts, hinges, and whistles and got burnt out fast. Tried to get back into it about five years ago and still couldn’t find time to climb the hill for being a single dad and 1:1 builder in real life has limited free time. Found the perfect woman who makes me complete things and achieve for greatness which brings us here. After seeing me read this forum almost everyday fruitlessly she realized the presbyopia setting in brought me a fresh slate and told me to simply “get over my builders block before I’m too old!” Here goes! 2
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 I originally wanted to wait til I was further along but she also mentioned procrastination is the presence of doubt. God has an awful sense of humor sending me such a bully as a wife so this will be updated as I go! I’d noticed this car has fine script emblems and have been anxious to try the paint over foil next method however I’d also noticed it comes with decals to masterfully represent said emblems as well. For time and completions sake I’ll save the forementioned method and do the latter. So first step as to sand all the emblems off and clean up scenes lines along with removing any flash 3
Cool Hand Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Good to see you back in the game, look forward to seeing what you come up with. 1
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Model masters flat black has always been a favorite of mine and spraying some for the first time in five years or better was quite satisfying! 2
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 After digging through countless boxes of old model materials I managed to locate fuel line, battery/starter cables, purple spark plug wires from “parts by parks”, and brake line along with ribbon for scratch making seat belts 2
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Another old favorite resource in earlier years has been “Ken’s fuzzy fur” which made flocking the carpet a pleasant task 3
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 And here just a small splash of color hinting at the body color that my beloved wife has also took the liberty to choose. Perfect. Everybody knows I love purple! 3

The king of black lowriders!😎 Ha ha, my user name on LayitLow was Damaged. Too much enjoyment for the hobby to walk away from it. Always stick to my trademark colour 😉 When I seen your name pop up, I knew it was Lowridingmike from the LayitLow days. Keep doing your thing il be watching. 1
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Squirted some base color on the car and immediately after mock up decided nope! Although this is supposed to be a quick build to end my build block the brick attached to my neck that contains my thoughts wouldn’t let it well enough alone so out comes the pearls and tape! This might get interesting stay tuned! 🙃 6 1
espo Posted February 13 Posted February 13 First, congratulations on finding that special someone. Many have shared some of the problems in life you have mentioned. I have found that has made me better appreciate that special someone since it hasn't always been that way. We'll have been happily married for 40 years this May and have supported each other thru thick and thin and have experienced both in that time. I wish you the same. Now this Camaro, like the color and the look of the interior. Let us know what else your wife is wanting done, I think she has good taste.

Thanks it’s been interesting to say the least but we’re enjoying the ride! The next few phases will be solely my doing on the paint so I’ll be hiding the car til it’s ready for clear lol. Which brings us to this update!
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 This pass of pearl turns blue in low light 3
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Funny the pearl in the masking photo had already known what was coming.. dark blue! And don’t worry they’re not a feeble attempt of racing stripes. Once all done the color palette will flow and though having lowrider inspiration it won’t be too overbearing either😉 2
Belugawrx Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Welcome back to the insanity !! This is gonna look great ...Purple is my favorite colour!!!
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 And of course my luck disaster strikes. Even after hours apparently the pearl wasn’t ready for tape so upon unmasking I was met with this 1
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 (edited) Only good thing is Ive had to deal with these type of shenanigans before so let the wet sanding commence!😈 Edited February 13 by Lowridingmike 2
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 (edited) Imma hit it once more then polish before any more panels or touch ups get done. Just trying to take these pictures I’ve noticed unacceptable blemishes and missed trash in the paint Edited February 14 by Lowridingmike
Lowridingmike Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Welp. Turns out that pearl I initially shot was a complete sando. Google “Vegas Matt” if you don’t know what a sando is. The more I sanded the more I found so from the doors forward had to get taken down to plastic. The old me would’ve thrown it in the purple pond and closed the lid for 90 days or better but I wanna try and fix what I got so here goes 😔 1
