I have and I find it's too hot to go over most paints including Duplicolor Perfect Match and HOK.

Duplicolor Perfect Match clear has always been very well behaved for me but I've never had a good result from the acrylic.

Ok.

Thanks

I think I'll stick with urethane

I used to be big into model rockets and used a lot of Duplicolor products. I found that I could use this if I started out by building up mist coats to the point where they created a base for a thin wet coat. Once the wet coat was fully cured, I could spray it a little heavier and get a finish that didn't need nearly as much finish work. I really only used this for bigger projects because of this. Once I the process figured out, it made for some beautiful finishes but it just never worked out as well for anything that I would compare with the size of a typical scale model. Maybe, if you are working in 1/12, it could be worth it but I think that you may end up with a heavy enough clear coat that it may obscure some detail, didn't really have to worry about that with three fins and a nosecone.

Me and mist coats do not get along too well. This just may be my general problem with clears.

Lately Duplicolor has been a weird line of paint for me. I have better results with hobby clears and one 1:1 car clear that I like.

When in doubt, make up test samples.

Anyone tried this clear

Yes  I use it over Duplicolor Acrylic Laquer Perfect Match paints...works great for me...medium coats only,...no heavy coats.

It doesn't lay down like 2K or anything,.. I do still need (and enjoy) wet sanding and polishing it (i know, i'm weird)

I made the mistake of buying their Acrylic enamel clear once...very different, especially over the Perfect Match and decals

They look almost the same so  Read the Label!!!

This is Duplicolor Clear Acrylic Lacquer over Duplicolor Acrylic Lacquer Toronado Red ...mildly wet sanded with 1000g and Novus 2 and 3

I may give the acrylic lacquer a try. I used a Krylon acrylic clear... the can was fairly new but I had problems with it.

I've been using a body shop 1K clear, Model Master Extreme Lacquer clear (great with their paints), a Mr. Hobby product from Hobby Lobby and of course Tamiya TS-13.

I'll have to try the Duplicolor 1k clear next time

I'll do a test with the lacquer clear on a few different paints , just for grins

This is what I do, always on some scrap plastic.

I like UPOL clear, it seems to give good results, and dries hard enough to color-sand, if necessary.  My retirement job was with the local PPG paint store, and we kept UPOL (a British firm, maybe?) on hand, along with SEM in rattle-cans.  It was used by many body shops, so I assumed it was a good material -- and it isn't cheap!  More usually, however, I use PPG 660 catalyzed clear, since I have it on hand for 1/1 car stuff anyhow.  It's super-premium, and never yellows. Remember the old automotive clears, and how they changed the base color!  Almost like hardware store stuff, especially if exposed to the sun.  Great instant gloss, tho.   Wick
