James2 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 (edited) Since the Sedan is off the bench I have begun the next project. This one has been brewing for a while after I ordered some (soon to arrive) wheel combos and a fine Drag City chopped 5 window. I’m starting with the AMT 34 kit but will mix in plenty of other parts for what should be a fun study. First I started cleaning up the frame and assembled the rear axle. I only used this to center the new rear end. From the Revell Roadster kit. Measured and drilled.Moving to the front I’ll remove material until the axle sets right for a better stance. Drag City Castings is one if not the best resin available. And this 5 window is no exception. It fits the frame perfectly and with some minor sanding to the kit parts the body should be silky smooth. Hoping the wheels show up this week, but here’s a hint of the engine I’d like to use. Edited March 2 by James2 11
dino246gt Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I'm interested, don't see many cool '34s in scale. Keep us informed on your mods! I like what I see so far!
Bullybeef Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I too am interested in this build! The poncho mill should be a nice addition to this.
Ragtop Man Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Making the popcorn now. Have always loved the '34, but never understood how all the majors could swing wide of the subjects all these years later (well, save for Monogram, but 1/24) Really looking forward to this one!
James2 Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 (edited) Separated the steering link for a better look. Edited February 26 by James2 6 1
James2 Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Still waiting on the wheels to arrive so for now I finished the wish bone by cutting to length, drilling the center and adding styrene rod. 5
James2 Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Thanks Carl, the rear axle is assembled. Still waiting on the wheel set to arrive before proceeding to far. 6
James2 Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 This may prove to be more challenging than expected, but I am committed to the Pontiac power plant. 7
johnyrotten Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Great work so far, ain't engine swaps fun! Nice job with the rear suspension, I did similar on my 34. 1
James2 Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Maybe I should call this Hot Rod Hacksaw. Cut up the firewall for clearance and made engine mounts. I can already see the exhaust is going to be tuff. 4
James2 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 I waited 8 weeks for these to arrive. They are extremely nice, But, they just aren’t going to work with this build. Plan B in the making…. 6

James2 Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 (edited) Ride height set, casual stance. Modified Revell rear wheel mounting to narrow the track. Edited March 6 by James2 12
Shark Posted March 8 Posted March 8 What changed your mind on the wire wheels, I think they would look good on the car.

The only reason I decided to purchase after watching them for quite some time, I was offered a discount. 1 1
James2 Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 I think this should work out well, .080 styrene rod and shrink tube. Plenty of clearance for the exhaust to exit before the rear wheels. 5
James2 Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 Some bench time today. Mostly pieces and parts fine tuning and fitment. Making a new windshield frame. Headers and misc ready for paint. Wheels painted and bagged. Tub fitment and ready to prime. I’ll probably flock the interior. Test fitting body chassis and engine 6
krassandbernie Posted March 17 Posted March 17 This is shaping up to be a fantastic build! I don't know why so many modelers these days gripe about this particular kit (the AMT kit, not my resin body). They keep comparing it to the Revell '32 Ford kits as one is naturally comparing apples to apples here. I think the AMT '34 Ford 5 window coupe kit is a pretty decent kit out of the box and you don't get all that many more options with half of the Revell '32 Ford kits either. This leads the average hot rod model car builder having to scratch build, kit, bash, or modify a few parts here and there to suit their project..............exactly what you have done here.........EXACTLY what you see most builders of the Revell '32 Ford kits (take your pick) doing. I am still left scratching my head at the absurd comments I receive regarding my resin body.........."I'd buy it if it were based on a Revell kit"...........which none exist currently by the way if you are referring to a standard 1/25th scale (non-snap tite) '34 Ford. At any rate, I am very excited to see this one completed! Great work! 2
