N~8~Ball Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Hello all Im in need of some help.. Im building a "beach cruiser" nomad and Im in need of two 1/24 or 1/25 surf boards to mount on the roof. Does anyone know of any model kits out there that came with surf boards as an option? I wouldn't mind using resin if I had to, I just want something with the right proportions and detail. I appreciate any help offered on the subject. Thanks everyone & take care Nate
FujimiLover Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I've never made one my selfe, but I'd bet they be easy to make out of sheet's of plastic to any size you want.
Brendan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Aoshima (sp) made some pickups with some surfboards, but I think they were all long boards. The kit that I have is the long board. Another thing you might want to look at is surf shops. A lot of times they have key chains, etc. that might work for your scale.
MikeMc Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 these came from the Revell '31 sedan.....undersized but kool!!
FujimiLover Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I've also seen toy's of boards. But I think those were skate-boards that you used with your fingers. Perhaps those can be modified to look like surf boards?
Jantrix Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I just put my first scratch built surfboard into primer. I'm very pleased with it. I'll have pics soon. However here's how I did it. 1. research the dimensions of the type of surf board you want to make. 1 inch will equal roughly 1mm in scale. So a 10 foot long board would be 12 decimeters long in scale. 2. find a good pic of the type of board you want. Copy/paste into your favorite paintshop type program (MS Paint will do) and resize until it is the desired size when printed. Cut out the image and use as a template onto some 2mm sheet styrene. 3. I used tin snips to quickly cut the blank out of the 2mm sheet. 4. after that it is just shaping. Sanding sticks from your local beauty supply store will do very well for that. 5. Rear fin(s) was made from 1mm styrene sheet approx 10mm high and long, roughly shaped like a shark fin. Your average surf board is about 3 inches thich. However when I cut a blank out of 3mm styrene it seemed out of scale so I did one from 2mm and it looked better. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.
Brian Fishburn Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Revell's 41 Woody custom has boards, as does the reissued Johan 59 Rambler wagon. I'm noit certain about the most recent reissue, but previous reissues of the AMT 64 Mercury had a board, but it was a longboard.
B_rad88 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 well its easy for me, since i live on the beach and there is a surf shop right down the street, i will go buy a couple of there 1/24 die-cast surf woody and rob the surf board from them! and plus the surf board is already painted! they rad dude!
Pete J. Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 (edited) Big Daddy Ed Roth created a beach cruzer called a Surfite. The kit comes with 2 or 3 boards of differant lengths and shapes. If you check ebay you can generally find a couple at very reasonable prices. I have a project I am doing and needed 3 of the kits. I got them for an average of about $15 including shipping. As always there are a number of dreamers who think their kit is "rare and desirable" and ask well over that price, but if you set your price and are patient, they come along often enough that you can get one at a reasonable cost. Here is a photo of one of my project cars. I made the rear wings out of the surfboards. Edited April 30, 2009 by Pete J.
Custom Hearse Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Another kit that has them is the Jo-Han Heavenly hearse kit. There is a lot of inaccuracies with them. The top part in the board is flat, where it should be rounded, and the bottom is rounded, where it should be flat. I took one and corrected it by cutting through the hole in the top, and installing the skeg (fin) on the other side, and bent it at the nose to have the correct shape. Now I have a corrected longboard. When I was 10, my first surfboard was a 13 footer. my sister had to help me carry it to the beach! I took another Jo-Han surfboard and corrected it to make a modern surfboard. I re-shaped the longboard by sanding off and adding a pointed nose, cutting the hole through for the skeg, bended the nose up, and added wrapping wire for a leash. Hope this helps.
