I’ve had a hard time getting my micro drill to grip a #80 drill bit, and I’ve had to use a pair of pliers to loosen the collet at times. So I gave it a good cleaning by dipping it in lacquer thinner. I was amazed how much black junk came off. I used some sandpaper to clean and de-burr the slots. After another dip in thinner, I very lightly oiled the threads with some clipper oil. I put a bit of oil on the outside of the jaws too where the outer collet? contacts them. Use a very small amount of oil, as you don’t want it creeping to the inner drill bit gripping area. It operates a lot smoother now.🙂

I think I need to do this, too - been having trouble with the smallest bits not being gripped as well.

I had to do something similar to the dremel(harts) drill chucks i picked up at sprawlmart. They were "crunchy" out of the package. I've gotta get me a drill like yours.

MicroMark has one that I think is similar to mine on the left. The spring broke on it so I bought the cheap one on the right from Amazon. I didn’t like the chuck on it so I wound up swapping the spring over to my old one.

Very light sanding inside the collet slots may help too by removing any tiny burrs left over from the manufacturing process. Those burrs can prevent the collet from fully closing or closing equally when holding the smallest drill bits.

Gegg,

I looked for the one on the right-side I can't find it. Where did you purchase it at?

Thanks

Mike

The one on the right I got from Amazon. The chuck is huge on it and makes it difficult to see what you’re doing with really tiny drill bits. I’d get the one from MicroMark or similar.
