sak Posted April 18 Posted April 18 Started this 1962 thunderbird. Switching it to a hardtop. Doesn't quite match at the windshield frame. Will need to add some material to the top of the frame and chop the roof a little. I've read that mating the floorpans and interior is quite difficult. I chopped quite a bit of the inner fenders but I am adding fender skirts so it should not be too obvious. Modified how the floorpans are held in place in the back so I can drop the floorpans in vertically. Looks like much material with need to be removed from the door panels and dashboard too. 4
JollySipper Posted April 21 Posted April 21 That looks good! The '62 is an excellent kit, this will be a cool build.........
sak Posted May 12 Author Posted May 12 Decided on a color for my thunderbird. Its a buick color. I bought it to try to build a replica of a regal in my neighborhood years ago. Should look ok with a white roof. 7
sak Posted July 2 Author Posted July 2 Painted, clear-coated. Now to start on other things while it cures... 6
sak Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 While waiting for the omni to cure a lil while longer, mixed a shade of red for the seats and did some essembly on the motor. 7
FoMoCo66 Posted August 25 Posted August 25 Nice work on this! I recently bought an amt 63 tbird annual and hope to do this chassis swap on it. I would also help because the windshield frame is gone. 3
sak Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago Long wAy to go, but started foiling. Can only do a little at a time, get too nervous, and need to step away. I thought I had the photoetch for this but I do not. Shipping is crazy expensive to canada so wont be able to get one until I can travel to US, whitch won't be for quite some time. That said, I dont think I will add much from it. Maybe only the thunderbird logos. I think it looks cleaner without the trim . 4
FoMoCo66 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Looking really good! I agree, BMF can be intimidating .

Very interesting project, love the creativity. Couldn't help but notice the belt/pulley detail, which instinct tells me is not OOB. Any chance you could elaborate on how you achieved this?

Easier if I uploaded a picture.
espo Posted 33 minutes ago Posted 33 minutes ago I agree with everyone else on the color and the smooth finish. Understand how you feel on the chrome foiling, I have to be in the zone when doing the foil trim. Better to take your time.
