JDMcorolla Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 i got a big square peace of styrofoam from work today(the kind they use for shipping tv's, washer and dryers). well anyways i got it home and started carving it in the shape of my mountain drift road. what i want to know is. is it dangerous to breath in the really little peaces. i didnt breath in any thing bigger than a pea size for sure. just want to know about the really small one's. should i be worried?
roadhawg Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) Are you serious? Well, its probably not as dangerous as breathing shredded glass, but breathing anything other than pure air is probably not good. Wear a dust mask. Edited May 7, 2009 by roadhawg
Modelmartin Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 It is likely just styrene foam which is what your models are made of. It is inert in its present form. Don't burn any of it because the fumes it gives off are very nasty including cyanide I believe.
MikeMc Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Dust is Dust is Dust...............No you shouldn't breathe in any dust.....and if you swallow anything golf ball size you will choke!!!
cruz Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Hey, just down it with a few cold brewskies!!! The damage is already done, right??? Just make sure to use the mask the next time around!! I don't think it presents any danger but it only takes a second to wear a mask so let's take care my friend......
JTRACING Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 A better foam to use is the foam insulation for walls. if you go in a home depot or something you can always ask a guy if they have broken sheets and get it free!. the stuff carves so much better you can actually carve in detail like stone walls or steps etc, around here it pink, i think in the U.S its blue looks like this its called rigid foam insulation http://www.daviddarling.info/images/foam_b..._insulation.jpg
