ShakyCraftsman Posted May 31 Posted May 31 (edited) Hello Everybody This is a future build that I'm gathering parts for. It will be a heavy offroad B.C. logging truck. I'm going to use the AMT Kenworth Alaskan Hauler for the base truck. I've ordered a Detroit Diesel 12V71 from Auslowe, a Allison Automatic trans from 3D Concepts, the wheels are from 3D Concepts (6 spoke Daytons), the tires are from Paul at ST Supply (RoadX DT990 13:00 24.5's) the headache rack will be from Global (modified to fit) the rest of the logging stuff will be from a AMT logging trailer kit. Here is a concept picture of it. Those tires are 48.0" tall! So yeah it's BIG! Ron G Edited May 31 by ShakyCraftsman 10
Biggu Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Thanks , Ron, as long as I don't have to make the payments , or crawl under it to grease and change oil 😉 It looks the very part of a heavy logging unit that would most definitely be used on Vancouver Island, a nice honor too ... you nailed the look for sure !

Thanks Pal I still have a few (Ha ha) projects to finish first before I can start on it.😉 Ron G 1
BK9300 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Ron, I like the drawings you use for your build designs. What program do you use? 1
ShakyCraftsman Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 High Brian Sketchbook on my phone. It's crapy little program, but it's all I have. My computer took a dump several years ago and it's to old for the new windows program. Ron G 1
BK9300 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Well, what you produce with the program works out well - great for visualizing your project. 1 1
Scott Eriksen Posted June 1 Posted June 1 .........nothing beats a buzzin dozen !! gonna be sweet! 1 1
ShakyCraftsman Posted June 13 Author Posted June 13 (edited) Hey all Well the "Buzzin Dozen" showed up today from Auslowe in Australia. This is a nice casting from Auslowe, but they did short me the air compressor.🤔 I replaced it with one from the parts box. It's going to be a squeeze to fit it in the A.H. Kenworth, especially with the twin turbos. 580 H.P. / 1,450 lb-ft torque. Ron G Edited June 13 by ShakyCraftsman 6
ShakyCraftsman Posted July 25 Author Posted July 25 (edited) Hey all I have the frame assembled for this build. I also have the engine and both transmissions fitted (I decided to use the 5 by 4 trans from the kit). I still have a long way to go on this one. This view shows the 12V71-TT with both transmissions sitting in place. This view shows the cab and hood in place. I have to increase the length of the hood by a scale 15" in order to accommodate the turbos on the engine. This view shows the rear Hendrickson RS 1000 walking beam suspension from 3D Concepts. This view shows the gap between the hood and cab that needs to be filled in. A little mock-up with the W/T's. Well that's all for now be back with more soon. Ron G Edited July 26 by ShakyCraftsman 6
ShakyCraftsman Posted August 29 Author Posted August 29 (edited) Hey all I almost forgot to post these pictures. I did this awhile back, but didn't include them, so here are the pic's of the kit 5spd transmission and the 4spd "Brownie". rear view of the transmission. I added all the bolt heads & the "X". Top view of the transmission and all the bolt heads. View showing the bellhouse bolt heads. This view shows the transmission mounted to the engine. This view shows the trans/engine and the Brownie & shift linkage. This view shows the Brownie and the bolt heads I added to it. Rear view of the Brownie and bolt heads. Front view of the Brownie and bolt heads. This view shows the front & rear W/T's I'm now going to use (thanks to Jeff's recommendation). They are KFS 14:00 24.5 Continentals with 6 spoke front and planetary rears. These are 54.0" tall !!! 😱 and 14.0" wide. These are what came on the Pacific P12 & Hayes HDX. There freaking huge! But I think they will make the truck. Well that's it for now be back with more updates soon Ron G Edited August 29 by ShakyCraftsman 6
BK9300 Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Your eyes must have been a bit weary after gluing all those bolt heads - looks great! 1
ShakyCraftsman Posted August 29 Author Posted August 29 Yeah no kidding, plus I have an eye condition that makes everything off and on blurry. Thanks Brian. Ron G 1
Randy D Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Tires and all those bolt heads are amazing Ron !!!! Randy 1 1
ShakyCraftsman Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Author Posted Monday at 10:32 PM (edited) Hey all I'm back...lol. I had to modify the DD 12V71-TT. The turbos were sticking up to high. I had to drop them down about 5mm. This way I can get the hood to clear them and fit a air intake pipe system. Here are some pictures for yous to perose. This view shows the lower intake plumbing. I need to shorten the intake pipe about 3mm so I can add the intake plumbing to the air cleaner. This view shows the engine in the frame with the cab in place. This view shows that I have to add 15" to the rear of the hood. Well that's it for now be back soon with more updates. Ron G Edited Monday at 10:35 PM by ShakyCraftsman 7
Biggu Posted Monday at 10:44 PM Posted Monday at 10:44 PM This will be epic when it gets ‘finished’ …. 🤭🤣 it is such a cool build. 1
Daverde Posted Tuesday at 03:49 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:49 AM Man that’s beautiful!! I used to rebuild 671s and 8 71s. And 6 92s and 671s 1 1
Daverde Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Hi great build in a retired diesel and automotive technician where do u get the engine ? Now I want to build a truck with one of these in it !!!
ShakyCraftsman Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago Hey David It's made by Auslowe in Australia. You can get it from ST Supply in both twin turbo and non turbo versions. Ron G
BK9300 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Very good to see an update, Ron - you have a lot of good ideas! I am always reminded of your truck, jeep, trailer, stinger(?) build you have on the go - great work going on there, too.
