Silvercreeker Posted June 6 Posted June 6 The ’81 Tamiya RX7 / Savanna is done, this build was box stock to copy my father’s current ’85 RX7. I built this for a Father's Day gift next week. (I know, this is right hand drive) This kit is from 1981 and had been sealed for 44 years! The plastic was super brittle and the roof had collapsed, but with patience I was able to warm and straighten it. The color is Mazda Sunbeam Silver (to match). This is a motorized kit, however the electric motor was eliminated, and the frame had the holes filled. Enjoy. 13
WillyBilly Posted June 6 Posted June 6 I love it. I have never seen Rotary shaped wheels before, but it makes sense. 1
karbuildr Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Very well done build. The color looks great. I'm sure your Father's going to love it, nice gift for him. 1
beeRS Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Fantastic job! That came out so well and it looks just like your dad‘s car. I’m surprised that a Tamiya motorised kit of this age comes with such good underside detail. You did an excellent job of hiding its motorised origins. I am sure that your dad will be a happy man on Father’s Day 👍🏼. 1
AMT68 Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Very impressive work and I've never seen one of these kits previously. It's an excellent gift idea. 1

DJMar Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Great job on this old Tamiya gem. I love these cars in silver. I remember when I fist saw this kit at the LHS, I was so mesmerized by the rotary wheels. They were so cool! 1
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Very cool build and gift idea. I'm sure your dad will love it. There is a 3d file for his rims on cults3d... 1
