dust collectors Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Hi all, Is there already a thread for posting survivor builds? If not can we get one going? It'd be cool to see others collections as well as share a few from my own collection.
Russell C Posted June 18 Posted June 18 Technically, Jeremy Linn's thread fits that bill, except by default it excludes really old buildups we've gotten that were built by someone else. I did a "resto-mod" of some guy's really old Ranchero speedster back in 2017, and have acquired 3 more old buildups from a different long-ago nameless builder, which will receive a similar mild "resto-mod" treatment -- all 4 would qualify for an overall Survivors thread, I'd think. Move this thread topic over into the General Automotive Talk section and I'd wager that many guys here could share photos of old/ancient buildups they've rescued from swap meets / estate sales / eBay that are a cut or three above being just gluebombs.
oldcarfan Posted June 22 Posted June 22 (edited) I don't remember there being a page. Here's some from me. I built this NSX when the kit first came out, then the Monogram NASCAR kits went on clearance at Toys R Us so I bought a bunch of them. A local hobby shop had lots of JNJ decals so I had fun. Finally this is the Monogram 50 Ford done up the way a guy down at the gas station might have done it. It even has the red shop rag gas cap. Edited June 22 by oldcarfan
Carmak Posted June 23 Posted June 23 There is a FB group called "Scale Survivors" that is focused on plastic model car kits built during the first golden era (before 1980) that have survived in their original built form. I have been collecting survivor builds for decades. Most of my survivors were found locally by word of mouth. The majority of my survivors were acquired from the original builders or their heir. I really like the charm and nostalgia of a vintage kit built when new (often by a teen or young adult). 2

But these days I can only scroll down three posts or less before it does that. When I get more work done on the 1960s era survivors I got off eBay, I should join that group and contribute there. It would give me the excuse to login every evening to see what's new.

Plenty of good reading here, and FB is getting desperate to be able to track their users by not allowing non-members to even view its webpages. 2
