oldcarfan Posted July 4 Posted July 4 While researching my Mercedes Sprinter rally van, I came across this van. Now I want to build something like it too. Any suggestions for this type of grill to go with the AMT Chevy van as I've got a couple of that kit. Were the vans the same except for the grill? 1
Tabbysdaddy Posted July 5 Posted July 5 There's also old style/new style taillights, I don't know the year of the change. The AMT kit is the older body so it doesn’t have the character line which is just above the rear wheel opening and stops just before the front wheel opening on the van pictured. When the character line was added the vans didn't carry it to the front doors at first. I would imagine there were different bumpers too. 1

The AMT kit is a '72, the Monogram/Revell ones are '74-'75 and they changed the character line in 1976 adding it full length for 1977. This style is the 1982-93 grille/lights. Also, the rear license plate in the door was gone after '78. 1
Can-Con Posted July 5 Posted July 5 If you can get a hold of an A-Team van it would get you pretty close. It's a GMC instead of Chevy but the bumpers, grille surround headlights would be the same. IIRC, but not sure but I think the tail lights and body side stampings are correct for the later vans as well. IF you really need the '85/'87 Chevy grille, Canuck 3-D does the pickup grille sized for the 1/25 AMY/MPC pickups and the new Revell Blazer. You could cut the grille section from the A-Team kit part and the printed part and swap them. I would think the one for the AMT kit would be the closest.
Fabrux Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Canuck3D does the 1989 van grille, he might do that one upon request. 🤷 1
