Monty Posted Tuesday at 06:55 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:55 PM No offense to anyone who uses them but spare me any references to rattle can primers. I'm only interested in primers designed to be airbrushed. Along with your listing, tell me briefly why you like it best.
sidcharles Posted Tuesday at 07:20 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:20 PM badger stynylrez why? i get good results with it.
Monty Posted Tuesday at 07:33 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 07:33 PM It's weird, I've heard a lot of good things about this stuff, but a basic Google search will bring up tons of replies regarding how poorly it shoots (even with a .5 needle), occasional "rubbery" finish, and the difficulty of cleaning your airbrush after use (common amongst acrylics I'm told). I want to like it because they offer it in +/- 10 "colors", including "metal". Thanks for your response.
Shark Posted Tuesday at 07:53 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:53 PM When air brushing, I use lacquer primer from MCW just because I know it's compatible with any paints. 1
DJMar Posted Tuesday at 08:43 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:43 PM A few years back, I bought a quart of Duplicolor Paint Shop gray primer (BSP100) for some touch up on my '53 F100. I had about half of it left over, so I've been using that when shooting lacquer. It's amazing how long a pint of primer will last. It is ready to go straight out of the container. I didn't buy it specifically to use on models, but it works well if you lay down multiple thin coats. I haven't had any problems with it. I do like MCW standard gray primer as well, but haven't used any in the last 3-4 years.
NOBLNG Posted Tuesday at 09:55 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:55 PM I thin this with lacquer thinner and keep it ready to go in one of my Paasche H jars. I use my battery powered mixer to stir it before use. If it has thickened up from sitting awhile, I just add a bit more LT. 2
