JollySipper Posted Wednesday at 04:19 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:19 AM Hello, Fellows! I have a few questions pertaining to my desktop tower computer. First question is: How important to the function of the machine is MS OneDrive? I keep getting notices pop up saying that OneDrive is slowing down my computer. I looked up what it is, and it seems like a file organizing app or something. When I use CCleaner, it says that OneDrive needs to close (meaning it's running in the background), and there is always a Bunch of files on/in it when the CCleaner is done. Next question is: Would CCleaner's paid service be worth having? Like, would it be as good as an antivirus program? I'm using a pieced-together Win10 unit, and they are gonna stop updating these in October...... I'm already planning a subscription to AdBlock Plus, which will make browsing a little safer, and there's Avast One on here, though I don't pay for it either. Anyway, any help with this will be appreciated!
MeatMan Posted Thursday at 12:38 PM Posted Thursday at 12:38 PM I disabled One Drive on both mine, and my wife's computers. We don't like having our files stored in the cloud. MS added this feature to push their cloud storage business. You can Google how to do it. CCleaner looks like a storage optimization program, and tho it may be good for cleaning unwanted files, it will not work as well as a good virus protection software. It works after infection has already occurred, and viruses are programmed to load before your operating system loads. CCleaner may never detect it. Your best option is a good anti-virus program. Any of the major brands will do. We use Firefox browser in our house (free) plus Norton anti-virus (pricey), but we've never, ever had a virus in over 40 years of owning computers. Although I've fixed many other peoples computers that had viruses, which always start with wiping the entire hard drive. Paying for a virus program (almost any brand) is the best and ultimately cheapest protection. 1
