MonsterFan88 Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Hello everyone I'm new here I wanted to post this for all to see hope you enjoy the photos let me know what you think all constructive criticism is appreciated, I'm currently working on a gunslinger monster truck build and using online photos... here's where we are 4
NOBLNG Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Welcome to the forums Timothy. Great start on your project. It looks like you are taking a very methodical approach to the layout of your frame and cage. They look excellent!👍
SpeedAndViolence Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Looks fantastic! What are you using to ensure the frame is straight? I would really like to try something like this using styrene rod/tube myself before stepping up to soldering brass tube.

I would really like to try something like this using styrene rod/tube myself before stepping up to soldering brass tube. I'm just using folded paper, I use the folded paper as a frame stencil for the cage and lots of eyeball work with reference photos, what I've done is measured the inside of the cab side to side and then front to back once that's done I use styrene tubing and brass rods inside the tubing for support every piece should be bent into place so that it fits if things are squeezed into place it warps the whole thing for the frame I cut styrene sheets and glued them together to make square tubing and put filed copper rods inside the frame for rigidity in the photos you can see I had to cut the front end and lengthen it I'm going to be working on the truck some more in the next little while, until next time happy building Timothy Auger 1
MonsterFan88 Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 Hey what's up everyone, I'm back with some more progress photos, I woke up today and discovered some separation with the joints on the frame and cage nothing a bit of thin cement can't fix, it's been a process but going great I finished the shock towers and some other pieces, I'll be starting the bottom half of the chassis and see what happens with that, I've got a little system so nothing goes wrong, let me know what you think I'll see you on the next one 😎👍👋 1
MonsterFan88 Posted August 9 Author Posted August 9 Hello everyone I'm back with some achievements in this project, here's where we are, I did notice that the right side of the chassis is in scale inches about 2 1/2" or more lower than the left side so I'm going to cut the top off a bit and see if that works, so far we're looking good 👍 😊
MonsterFan88 Posted August 9 Author Posted August 9 (edited) Here's some more photos, I was mocking up the body with the cage and letting the imagination run 😁 Edited August 9 by MonsterFan88
MonsterFan88 Posted August 10 Author Posted August 10 I'm back with some more progress trying to get to the paint ready point, here's some more photos of the chassis I'm working on the shock tower mounts and four link mounts then floor and finally paint 🎨
MonsterFan88 Posted August 10 Author Posted August 10 I'm now getting some serious scratch building happening with the linkages here's a look at the process so far

MonsterFan88 Posted August 11 Author Posted August 11 Painted just one more coat from the bottom and it's done up to that point 😁
MonsterFan88 Posted August 14 Author Posted August 14 After a few days I am back again with a few progress updates looky here 😁😎💯👍
MonsterFan88 Posted August 15 Author Posted August 15 At the end of the day it's all about fun I've found the building of the engine very therapeutic I had to paint the sparkplug wires so while they dry I'll continue with the battery and other things maybe the shock absorbers 😁😁😁 happy building everyone 😎 👋👋👋
NOBLNG Posted August 15 Posted August 15 Awesome tube work there Timothy! Engine is looking good too.😎

MonsterFan88 Posted August 16 Author Posted August 16 I've been staring at and eyeballing reference photos the entire time, the engine won't entirely mimic the original but "as close as possible" is the idea plus, I've never wired up an engine ever so a monster truck I thought would be a great idea to try that on, happy building everyone 😎 👋
MonsterFan88 Posted August 16 Author Posted August 16 So here's the engine so far, it's my first crack at this I'm going to try and put linkages on this as best I can I don't know the exact color of the shiny Silver components so that's why I painted them that way at the end of the day it's all about fun 😊 1
MonsterFan88 Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 As I expected it would take a long time here we are with the linkages and eventual hoses😎👍😁 1
