nickfzr61 Posted August 8 Posted August 8 (edited) Finished up my Jungle Jim funny car. My intention was to build this kit out of box just to add a funny car to my collection. I had read the comments and saw builds of others here and on the web but I didn’t realize how bad this kit is until I had it in my hands and compared it the the reference pictures I found online. As most of you probably know it’s not very accurate. I modified the body by moving the front wheel openings forward. Then I cut off the front bumper ends and tucked them in to the body. Looking at pictures it seemed to me the Camaro body didn’t have a cutout on the hood for the supercharger so I filled it in. I think that was on the Vega body which would make sense since that body is probably shorter. Hard to really be sure with the limited number of pictures out there which is kind of surprising since this is such a historic car. The chassis was really bad. Very toy like and inaccurate. I found a free funny car chassis .stl file online and after manipulating it in Meshmixer I think I was able to print a decent chassis. Not an exact match to the 1:1 but definitely better than what came with the kit. Front wheels are from the kit and were modified. I thinned down the spokes and reduced the diameter of the hub which looked like something from a 4x4 truck. Front tires are from my parts box. For the rears I went in the opposite direction. I used the kits slicks and wheels from the parts box. They were sprayed Alclad polished aluminum then Alclad exhaust manifold. Body was primed with Tamiya Gray laquer primer and shot with Dupli-Color BCC0422 which is a Chrysler color then cleared with their 1K clear. Thanks for looking. Edited August 10 by nickfzr61 11
Mopar2 Posted August 8 Posted August 8 You put alot work into her.And it shows...Great build, and detail...
nickfzr61 Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 (edited) Forgot to mention I also added the upper struts on the wheelie bars, made aluminum panels for the drivers cockpit out of styrene and Alclad polished aluminum, and printed a set of funny car zoomies. Fuel tank is also from the parts box. Edited August 8 by nickfzr61

dmthamade Posted August 9 Posted August 9 A terrible kit, but you did a fine build with it!! I did buy the kit when getting back into cars, what a disappointment!!! Scrapped the kit used the decals on a Moebius Nova Gasser kit as a whatif. Expensive decal sheet... Don

I get they can’t make exact models of the actual cars but come on. At least try and come close. I guess I’d go bankrupt if I ran a model car company. Either that or I’d be rich. Lol. Yes the A pillar is just another aspect of this kit that’s off. I think the real car is closer to a stock Camaro A pillar. I was thinking about correcting that but I figured no one would notice. So much for that. 🤣 1
iBorg Posted Wednesday at 12:16 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:16 AM Moving the front wheels really helped a BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH kit. I totally agree with dumping the chassis. Not sure what can be done with that piece. I would bet this is the most common kit for people to open with great expectations and then put it back in the the box and saying, nope.
