gtx6970 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 (edited) A tandem build as both cars essentially the same exact kit ( Im using the Butch Leal kit for both cars ) Leal car is all kit decals. The Jenkins driven Dox Burgess car has Slixx decals. They were at least 10 years old , So i had my fingers crossed they were still good. The Doc Burgess car will get an auto transmission conversion . Otherwise they will be basically straight out of the box builds. A lot of the major components for both cars were painted a few weeks ago when we had basically zero % humidity ( Gotta love southern AZ weather ) First up the Butch Leal car , Tamiya orange , kit decals Race hemi orange for the engine Edited August 12 by gtx6970 11
Shark Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Zero humidity, what's that. Here in the Piedmont area of North Carolina, I would like to have a day without rain. Back to the models. The kit decals on the Leal car look like they did real good, aftermarket quality.
Brutalform Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Those bodies are lookin real good. I built the white car a while back. Can’t wait to see more progress.
gtx6970 Posted August 14 Author Posted August 14 (edited) Minor update 4spd for the Leal car Auto version robbed from the Golden Commandos version for the Doc Burgess car Undecided if I'm going to do spark plug wiring.....or not. Edited August 14 by gtx6970 5
gtx6970 Posted August 14 Author Posted August 14 (edited) A dry assemble to ck the stance and wheel choice Im undecided if I'm going to use these wheels Or not ...... This is 'opposite' of how the instructions say to install the ft spindles . and It lowers the ft end a good bit I think I like this better. More of an 'at rest' photo so to speak. Anyone else completed this car to show it both ways ? Edited August 14 by gtx6970 6
Shark Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I always liked that car with the chrome cragers front and back. Just looks cleaner.
Brutalform Posted August 15 Posted August 15 Nice progress, Bill. Looks better slightly lower I think. One thing with these Moebius AWB kits, is, I wish they included two additional halves of the stick transmission version of the engines in the box. Since some were sticks and some autos that were raced. But I get it. The company wants to make money.
Brutalform Posted August 15 Posted August 15 BTW, did you find a windshield for the Plymouth/Dodge? I looked, and I have a bunch of Moebius parts, EXCEPT what you are looking for. 1

Bill,,,in response to your question above, IIRC I built this one with the spindles in the recommended position. Having observed the finished stance I told myself if I ever built the kit again (which I will do, eventually) I would reverse the spindles as you have done. In the picture below, it doesn't look that different but when you see the actual model, it is pretty clear that it would benefit from being dumped in the front, at least to a little. Best of luck finishing the project! TB 5
gtx6970 Posted August 15 Author Posted August 15 (edited) Thanks Tim I had it mocked up per the instructions and Not sure I cared for the look Gives it an at speed look And If I were doing a diorama. I might be more inclined to build it that way, Same goes for the Burgess car Like so ps, Im also leaning towards just using the kits chrome wheels, even though they are not "correct' for the Leal car Seems most of his car had bling so to speak. pss, Seems the Burgess car ran a roll bar. Whereas the Leal car did not. Edited August 15 by gtx6970 6
Brutalform Posted August 15 Posted August 15 IIRC, I built mine with the spindles as the instructions suggested. A little high, but a lot of these cars sat up a bit in the front. 5
gtx6970 Posted Tuesday at 12:10 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 12:10 AM (edited) Had some time this morning so finished off the 2 interiors. Sanded the molded in radio out and put some aftermkt gauge decals in there place. Column auto for the Burgess car on the left 4spd for the Leal car on the right Edited Tuesday at 12:59 AM by gtx6970 3
meechum68 Posted Tuesday at 12:43 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:43 AM Looking great! The decal work is fantastic!! 1
gtx6970 Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago (edited) My least favorite part of modeling . The BMF work I've actually been putting this off doing for a few days So I'm quite glad that's out of the way Need to figure out how or if I want to attempt to try and fill the slot in the door for the drivers side mirror I completely missed before they were painted Options are A- leave it and have a hole B- install the mirrors which Im almost positive an A990 car never had? C - Attempt to fill them with tiny pieces of plastic and make a 'faux pas ' mirror delete plate ? Edited 20 hours ago by gtx6970
gtx6970 Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago I decided to try and push my luck , try option C Cut 2 tiny pieces of plastiruc and superglued them in place. And BMF over them. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself The vent wing frames are the new Fusion Chrome paint. Applied with a very tiny sharp tip brush
M W Elky Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I like the filler plate the fusion chrome looks pretty good where did you get it ?
