James Maynard Posted Thursday at 06:00 PM Posted Thursday at 06:00 PM Ok here's a picture of the problem I'm having. I got this 50 year old trailer and the decals are rotten. I was wondering if I could glue them on maybe with rubber cement?
sidcharles Posted Thursday at 06:03 PM Posted Thursday at 06:03 PM maybe some proprietary decal solution would soften enough to adhere, and then some clearcoat sprayed on top for longevity.
James Maynard Posted Thursday at 06:12 PM Author Posted Thursday at 06:12 PM I think I have a bottle of that. They're just so fragile you can see where they disintegrated where I touched them.

It's actually still on the paper backing by the way. The decal started disintegrating when I touched it to peel it off after soaking it.

I was wondering who makes custom decals anyway since Jerry retired. Thank you.
Bainford Posted Thursday at 10:03 PM Posted Thursday at 10:03 PM If you use that decal, you will need to clear coat it with something first, or it will fall to pieces as soon as it hits the water. Micro Scale makes a product just for this, and others do too, and some people give them a couple light coats of Tamiya clear though I've not tried it. A fresh decal is clearly your best bet. I wouldn't be surprised if there was already a large Bud decal out there, somewhere.
peteski Posted Thursday at 11:00 PM Posted Thursday at 11:00 PM Even if they were somehow saved, those old decals also have yellowed clear film which will not look very good when applied to the model. I agree that having a new decal made is likely the best option. Try to save as much of the original decal as possible as it will likely be used to produce the artwork for the new decals.
James Maynard Posted Friday at 03:36 PM Author Posted Friday at 03:36 PM I used rubber cement on the backing paper on the one that I soaked in the water which is the one in the picture. Had to let it dry first of course. The other account that asked this same question is an account I had to make before I remembered my login. Now the rubber cement is temporary. The other decal sheet is perfectly intact as someone said it will need to be in order for a new set to be made.
Mike 1017 Posted Friday at 05:09 PM Posted Friday at 05:09 PM I have used Vallejo Decal Fix with some success.
