We get a lot of questions about 3d scanning various model parts, I saw this video and thought it would show the current state of the technology and the process for using the scans. I was pretty impressed with the quality of the scan. It also seems to be able to merge a top and bottom scan into one piece, it would be interesting to know the limitation of that ability.

Its pretty easy to use but the difficulty to make parts for it is in the 7 and up difficulty scale, scanners cant see chrome or glass i fixed this by using baby powder but that also creates a grainy surface when scanned. the problem is as you can tell the dozens of dents created by light refraction that would take days to fix and maybe even weeks or months to make a usable body for printing.

This is the video I get. “Can We SAVE A 1920 Zenith T5F Carburetor W/ MODERN Technology?“

Edit: I thought it was the wrong video, but the 3d scanning starts at 4:05.

Watched that one last night. The scanner was interesting, they used it to re-create the venturi for the carb.
