59 Impala Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) I'm restoring this 41 Plymouth from a really glued glue bomb. It had 4 coats of paint on it with another coat of some kind of clear. I soaked it in the purple pond and also had to soak some parts in brake fluid just to get the coats of paint off. Well, here are some pics These next pics is what the body looks like now. It's Purple. Thanks fer lookin. Dan Edited June 5, 2009 by 59 Chevy Impala
MADmodelDOCTOR Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 That color actually looks pretty neat on that!
59 Impala Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 Thanks Ken. I'm working on the interior now. These rebuilds are a lot of work, but I enjoy the challange. Dan
Foxer Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 ah yes ... this '41 could be where Plymouth got the idea for all those future 70's colors! That color DOES look good on it.
59 Impala Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 Thanks Foxer. I had the paint in my hand and thought, why not and next thing the Plymouth was Purple. Dan
59 Impala Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 I got a little more done on the Plymouth. I got all the parts that are supposed to be chrome Alcladed today and I should have more pics up tomorrow. I also have the engine that I'm going to use and it's not a Hemi or the 6 banger. Oh, and it won't be a Chevy engine either. I'll post pics of it tomorrow. Dan
59 Impala Posted May 23, 2009 Author Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) Well, here are the pics of the Plymouth parts that I had to redo. And this one is of the engine that I'm going to use. I really like the Alclad chrome. These parts had the chrome plating worn completely off and i had to use the Alclad. The engine is from the parts box and I'm not sure what cubic inch it is. All I kknow is that it is a Mopar engine. I also switched the transmisions. This one has a longer tail and fits the chassis better than the one that was on this engine. More to come later. tuffone20 Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Your Plymouth is looking real nice!! I've always like the looks of that car for some reason!! I have one that I did for my dad some 30+ years ago and I've been thinking about restoring it some time? Here's a photo of it. And I can't wait to see how yours looks when your done with it.
59 Impala Posted May 23, 2009 Author Posted May 23, 2009 Your's looks nice T. Is the color a dark purple or black? I like it. Dan
tuffone20 Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Thanks, yeah it's held up pretty well for how old it is. It has spent most of it's time in a case and then for some 10+ years it was packed away. But yeah it's black and needs some TLC as the photo makes it look better then it does. Marty
george 53 Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Dan, the engine LOOKS like the 426/440 RB block the came in the AMT 48 Merc kit. Since you cut an changed tranny's, I can't say for sure, but it sure looks like it.
59 Impala Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Thanks George. 426 sounds good to me. I think that I've ran into a little problem. The exhaust. What I was planning on using I found out that I can't. They won't fit, so, it's back to the drawing board for the exhaust. Dan
Eshaver Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Dan , since that engine was used on Dodge trucks and Chryslers , check around and see if someone might have an old Jo-han 62-3 Chrysler Newport that they might be hot rodding . Seems to me that the headers that came from the factory were rather close quartered in the real car . Now I also know as I had a set of 1-1 headers that Chrysler had some racing headers that took half of the pacific ocean to clear too. They were intended for the "Rams Horn " intake with the two Carter A F B 's I can look in the A M T 49 Mercury kit I have to see what headers came in it . I;m going to,build it stock anyway. Harry P. Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I guess that would be a perfect color for a MOPAR muscle car from the early 40s...
59 Impala Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Thanks guys, and Ed, I have the exhaust headers that were on the engine and I guess that's what I have to use. I was hoping that I could use something different instead of stock headers, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen. That's Ok though. Thanks again. Dan
59 Impala Posted June 5, 2009 Author Posted June 5, 2009 Well, I got this one finished. I had to use exhausts from either the 40 or 32 Ford. I also used the mufflers from the same kits. These parts are from back in the 60's and I don't remember which kit they came from Anyway, I had to strip them and then I painted them Aluminum. Here are some pics of the finished car. Hope ya like it. Thanks fer lookin. Dan
