I've been a lay student of psychology since I was in college, really thought about majoring in it instead of ME. As such, I kinda understand the mechanisms that make people do horrible things, but understanding the how doesn't go very far towards fixing it, or accepting it. I have come to believe that evil is a very real force operating in the world, and that some people are simply born bad. I've known a few kids from what would be described as "good" families that were just plain cruel, destructive, dishonest, and prone to unprovoked violence. These kids had "normal" siblings, so the whole "nurture" argument goes out the window. They were just evil, pure and simple. But I also think that letting it in is a choice for most people, and it's a choice made out of moral and intellectual laziness, and in many cases just a willingness to go along, unthinkingly, with a peer group, out of insecurity or some need to belong that I also will never understand. No one exercising any kind of rational independent thought could have seriously imagined there could possibly be ANY kind of upside for ANYONE as a result of the atrocities committed on 9/11. . Volzfan59 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Through my 30+ year law enforcement career my eyes were opened to a lot of things. @Ace-Garageguy is 100% correct, evil does exist. I’ve dealt with children that were completely evil all the way to elderly evil people. I have no use for any of them. Got plenty of stories, some I’m not real proud of but one has to do what one has to do. I just refused to play defense, only offense. 1
