stitchdup Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Thought I'd come and play with the big boys. My plan is stock with a little detail and I figured a tractor would be an appropriate load. Its not going to be shiny but it wont be worn out either 5
Rockford Posted October 13 Posted October 13 This is going to be interesting. I have seen this kit but I've never heard of EMHAR. Looking forward to seeing it come together. This chassis had long been replaced by my day but that wooden dropside type body was still a standard. You'd hear them rattling and banging, especially when they were empty. They were so versatile. When drivers knew how to rope and sheet a load. 1
stitchdup Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 I assembled the engine this afternoon. It all went together pretty well and the couple of parts that were warped turned out to hide the warp when it went together. So far the kit feels like an icm/italeri cross in how it goes together. Its also the first time i've sucessfully drilled a distributor 7
Kanada Kustoms Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Cool subject... That tractor will look awesome in the bed! 1
stitchdup Posted October 21 Author Posted October 21 a bit more progress. for such a modern kit i'm surprised how much clean up is needed. i might have got a bad kit but every part has been slightly out of line and required a lot of scraping. I built the similar era opel blitz and i dont recall it needing much done. Still, it hasn't put me off emhar and i just got the towtruck version. apart from the extra clean up its going together well but i could do with three hands in places. I've also made a start on the tractor but i'm not far enough along with it to show much. Its been a lot of tiny parts, like the icm model a has but it seems a little less daunting than the miniart road tractor which i've put back in the box many times, lol. 4
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Very interesting build. I had a couple kits of these, but they may be gone forever. Always liked the looks, but really wished somebody had kitted the old 'parrot nose' Dodges in this scale too. 3
stitchdup Posted October 26 Author Posted October 26 I got the chassis mostly painted the other day. Unfortunatelly 2 steps later there were a couple of parts more to add which i missed seeing when i checked the instructions. I've also got the interior together and it pretty much snapped together and most parts could have been done without glue. The cab is also together after needing some heavy mold lines removed and i sanded around the doors before fitting them but could have done a little more as i still had to rescribe them after gluing them on. I'm also part way through assembling the bed but i found i didn't trim the sprue nubs back enough so there are small gaps along the edge. I only have a couple of small parts left to add to the interior part and it will be ready to spray but i think i'll be brushing the bed as i think it will look more correct for the build and possibly easier to get the aged look on the bed. 2
stitchdup Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago I got the paint mostly done. Its all tamiya spray cans with, unusually for me, no primer. I also found out german grey is actually green so the main body is now green. All the black is rubber black as its all i had. The weathering is a mix of revell pigments, ammo dry brush rust and tamiya paits. The wood deck is brush painted but needs more dirtying. The cab sign writing is hand done with my grandads name and address, and because of the green paint i've given it painted over military markings using the same green paint shade as the house doors as thats what he would have done. Since he did so many jobs on the island i'm going to add some details related to those jobs. The intention is to have the truck represent grandad taking his used tractor home from the steamer (cargo boat). I've also stuck some parts on the tractor but didn't take any pics 2
Biggu Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Cool build and an excellent back story. I really like this old school stuff. 1
BK9300 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Admiring your weathering - you’re certainly making it show its age. Really like the hand painted name over the previous lettering - nice touch! 1
