RoninUtah Posted November 15 Posted November 15 What a cool build! I really like this idea and how you’re pulling it off! 1
Jürgen M. Posted November 15 Author Posted November 15 Got the base coat on the body parts and rims: The reflections make it look a bit uneven but it's not! Tomorrow it should be cured enough to assemble the cab and wheels. 3
BK9300 Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Moving along well, Jürgen! I’ve been experimenting with some clear topcoats on an old hood. Do you use clear finish on any of your truck builds? 1
Jürgen M. Posted November 15 Author Posted November 15 (edited) Yes I do. Not always though. If I choose a color that's better to spray in flat then I put a water based clear coat on. Also on decals to preserve them. When I choose a flat finish I sometimes use a dull clear coat. Edited November 15 by Jürgen M. 1
Jürgen M. Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Mock-up with the painted body: Everything seems to fit! Not Bad for an AMT kit! Interior is finished! I kept it very simple since it's a much used working horse. Wheels are also finished. Need a bit of rust and aging! The body parts will also get a bit of rust and aging. Especially the chromed parts will show age! 3
Rockford Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Hope the ease of building carries on for you Jürgen. Interesting choice of colour. Coming together nicely mate. 1
Jürgen M. Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Thanks Steve! I wanted a color I haven't used yet and I kind of liked the green. The interior looks a bit like a military truck but that doesn't matter! A bit of aging and rust and it'll hopefully look authentic. 2
Pete68 Posted November 16 Posted November 16 18 hours ago, Jürgen M. said: the base coat on the body parts and rims: I painted a Louisville dump truck about this same color last year one day I’ll get to building it maybe. All is looking great 1 1
Jürgen M. Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Another mock-up, this time with wheels: The lift axle works: It stays in place just by friction. I started to make the rims dirty and rusty. I think they still need some attention. 4
Biggu Posted November 16 Posted November 16 I totally agree with Gary , the color is spot on, this is gonna be a really cool old work horse with no glitter … I love it !! 1 1
Jürgen M. Posted November 17 Author Posted November 17 (edited) Got a little bit done yesterday: Of course the chromed parts still look too new but I'll wait till they mirrors, turning signals and markerlights are also attached so I can apply the dirt and rust in the same intensity. The cab isn't glued in yet. Still have to do some adjusting to the hood hinges. The support frame (black) fits the chassis perfectly. The bottom frame of the scrap bin (white) was printed last night. These are aluminium tube and rod which will be combined to a hydraulics stamp used to lift the bin. More to that later. Edited November 17 by Jürgen M. 3
Jürgen M. Posted Monday at 06:23 PM Author Posted Monday at 06:23 PM A bit of progress: I decided for one stack and connected the left exhaust with the right side and used a box part to define the distance to the cab. The dust and rust will increases a bit! 3
Jürgen M. Posted Tuesday at 05:03 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 05:03 AM Thanks Steve! I took that from the ACX I had built a few years ago. Thought it might fit well. And it works too! 🙃 I'd say the truck itself is finished. Now the scrap container will be made. The adapter frame is also an idea I took from the ACX. Had to modify it though. Now I have to print the Big stuff. Had to split it up to be able to print it. The support frame which will be attached to the container is mocked up: 5
av405 Posted Tuesday at 06:20 AM Posted Tuesday at 06:20 AM You're making quick work of this one! I like the green. 1 1
Biggu Posted Tuesday at 03:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:27 PM This is really cool. The color just makes this. I am getting some ideas with this build. I have built a few of these and no where near as good as this. The frame length would make a great tandem 🤔🤔 I’m looking forward to the next update. I really like where you are taking this …..
Jürgen M. Posted Tuesday at 04:14 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 04:14 PM Thanks Jeff! Glad you like it and can generate ideas out of this! I printed the rear doors and the locking mechanism: One is white because I had changed filament. There wasn't enough of the black one left to print the whole container! This is the rear view of the support frame mocked up on the chassis: Got it pretty straight I'd say. At least for an AMT kit! 2
Jürgen M. Posted Tuesday at 04:53 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 04:53 PM The first half was printed over night. It took 11 1/2 hrs! The hydraulic stamp is just mocked up. Still needs some attention concerning fit and length. 2
BK9300 Posted Tuesday at 06:44 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:44 PM This is really coming along nicely, Jürgen! Will you make a 'load' out of your parts box or use other stuff? 1
Jürgen M. Posted Tuesday at 07:13 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 07:13 PM Thanks Brian. Yes, I have a lot of body parts in my box due to failed print outs. Nothing that fits together though. I could make a Peterbilt W900 or an International FLC! 😁 1
Gary Chastain Posted Tuesday at 07:52 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:52 PM Wow, this is gonna be a one of a kind build, great vision 2 1
Jürgen M. Posted Wednesday at 02:50 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 02:50 PM (edited) The second half was also printed over night! Fits in perfectly! The doors are also printed and they fit too: The locking mechanism will hopefully work. You can lift the lever to unlock and then away it to the side and open the doors.
