1969 Camaro - Stone Stock Base Model

Im not a camaro person, but this Revell kit is such a good kit that it was calling to me.  Wanted to do something totally different, so i have started researching stone stock base model camaros that some housewife would have owned in 1969.   Base model, no trim, 250 straight 6, torque drive transmission(look it up).  as a host of unusual colors and options.   So far i have this,   opened the trunk, because i will eventually add all the stuff for the Traction Compound option.  Made some bowties front and rear using Gregs radiator cap techique. Thats when i noticed Revell made the trunk lock too low so i had to sand it off and drill it higher.  I deleted the speakers on the package tray, radio delete, column shift, you get the idea.  i had to sand off all the wheelwell chrome too, that was fun!    Oh, and we cant forget the addition of the flat hood from the AMT 67 kit.   Im thinking of doing a vinyl top,  and it will probably get a luggage rack, just for fun.    Brown with parchment interior i think, but maybe green.

Yes!! I just recently commented to another member here about this exactly.  You never see a base model Camaro. Great build idea and fantastic work so far.

Interesting project, to bad the bench seat option wasn't available in 69 that would make it even more unique.

Oh yeah, that's cool! We don't get to see enough base model cars and trucks. 

Also, the V75 option is gonna be awesome.

I like what your doing a lot.  I have one in the works also and it is a 69.  Gold, just had a friend 3D print a couple Chevy 250ci.  I think this kit is great I think this is the 4th or 5th Camaro.  Keep posting!.

I like your build ideas, and I owned a similar '69 Camaro many years ago but with a few more options than your thinking of building. The mentioned front bench seat was an extra cost option and was usually found on a Camaro with the optional Custm Interior and not the Standard Interior as you're wanting to build. The Column Shift for the Power Glide Transmission would have been standard and the center consol would also be an option. For a 6-cylinder engine maybe the 6 in the reissue Round 2 '60 Chevrolet pickup might be a consideration. The standard wheels would have been painted body color with "dog dishes" for hub caps.

Thanks,   the 6 cyl will come from my pile of resin cast 1963 Trumpeter Nova ones.  Its the best 194/230/250 out there without going 3D.  Will look similar to my Canso and impala motor when done

G’day. The idea of a base model 69 Camaro is an interesting one, so I’ll be looking in on your build. Also, in the opening post, you mentioned sanding the moulded in wheel arch trim off, I’ll be attempting this for a custom 69 Camaro build and is there any particular tools or methods used to achieve this? I imagine that it’s a tedious process. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Stuart.

I just scraped the wheelwell trim off on kind of a 45 degree angle with a Xacto blade,  crude, but worked!

I decided to try opening the grill,  took me over an hour to get it all done and clean each rectangle, but its gonna be great!!

I glued a powerglide(torque drive actually)  to a straight 6.  I made multiple 6 cyl oil pans when i cast the 6 cyl,  the whole thing is going to fall into place perfectly in the camaro chassis,  almost no blocks or buildups needed.

Not really a Camaro guy either, but this is very cool! We don't see enough base model cars in scale. Very nice work so far, I'll be watching this one.

The "Liquid Tire Chain, RPO V-75 was a $23.20 cost option.
