Scott Colmer Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 This came up during family gathering. First I have to define model car builders. It has to be someone who builds at regular intervals at least 2 or more hours a week on average and has done so for at least 2 year. They would be more likely use their own money to buy a kit. This isn't a hard and fast definition, but it should put us in the ball park. I ventured to guess at least 30,000 world wide. My family went MUCH lower. Anyone else? Scott
RodBurNeR Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 If you must stick to the description, I would guess maybe 1,000 or less. I don't know anyone that came go two years straight and not skip a week or even a month of modeling. I consider myself to be pretty consecutive, but I miss a week or two a few times a year.
Steven Zimmerman Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm interpreting this to mean an AVERAGE of 2 hours a week;makes a big differance. For instance,if you modelled 10 hours in one week and then did not touch a model for a month, your 'average' for 5 weeks would still be 2 hours a week over the 5 week period........I always thought 'averages' were misleading, and don't give a true picture-unfortunately,we've been brainwashed in this country to accept this(not a slam, just my take) My Dad used to say that a man with one foot in the refrigerator and one foot in the oven was'ON AVERAGE'....quite comfortable!(grin)....Steve Zimmerman
RodBurNeR Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Well in that case, I would guess just from the internet there are about 30-40 thousand? There are always more people that build out there, but we don't see or hear of them so it's probably much higher than that. Don't forget we have people that are afraid to say they build models....it's too bad they don't know WE are out there and that it's not wierd for an adult to build lol
roadhawg Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 How many in the WORLD???? The world is a pretty big place. There's what, over 6 billion peeps worldwide? If only one tenth of one percent (.01%) were model builders, that would be 100,000.....30-40K seems low to me. We're talking U.S., South America, Asia, Japan........I'd guess maybe 80,000.
roadhawg Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Ohhhhhhhhh....you said model CAR builders. Sorry, my bad....should have read it closer! yes, 30K is about right.
