texastomeh Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Guys, I am trying to find a 1:24 or 1:25 scale Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. I have a 1:18 Diecast, but want a 1:24 (perferrably diecast) or 1:25. Am willing to settle for a built or unbuilt kit. I have searched every website (including eBay) that I can think of and can't find anything in 1:24 or 1:25. Does anyone know if anyone built the Daytona Coupe in 1:24 or 1:25? Any help will be appreciated. thanx, texastomeh
crispy Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Revell has a slot car in 1/32 scale. Model Factory Hiro has high quality resin kits in 1/24 scale. Not sure of their availability though, and pricey. You can find the MFH kits on www.hlj.com Chris
jfh Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 (edited) AFAIK, there are four different Cobra Daytona Coupe kits "generally" available in 1:24 scale. 1. The older kit is a Gunze Sangyo # G-512. This is a curbside version (no engine), with PE parts and a metal chassis. These show up on eBay from time to time, and usually sells for more than $80.00. 2. A current kit is by Scale Motorsports. Also a curbside kit, this one is made of resin, and has PE details, etc.--I believe it currently sells for $150.00. You can buy this one online from Scale Motorsports. 3. The third kit is the one by Historic Racing Miniatures / Harold Bradford. This one has full engine detail; it is also a resin kit c/w PE parts, etc. These are available online from Strada Sports; I think the current price is $185.00. The engine is also available separately for builders of the other kits. 4. A 4th kit--maybe the "best"--is the Model Factory Hiro one--it sells for about $260.00--Island Collectibles may have it in stock. I have spare Gunze kits--but as a newbie to this board, I do not know the protocol for buy/sell between members of this forum outside of the buy/sell subforum. Jim H. Edited July 11, 2009 by jfh
texastomeh Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 Thanx Guys!!! jfh - I too am a newbie. DO NOT want to violate forum rules (at least, not this soon)!! What is your opinion re the quality (detail, accuracy, materials, instructions, etc.) of the Gunze kit? Anyone else that is familiar with these kits please feel free to speakup also!! texastomeh
Pete J. Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Here is a Gunze on e bay. They come up all the time. http://cgi.ebay.com/Gunze-Sangyo-1-24-scal...%3A1%7C294%3A50
jfh Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 "...what is your opinion...of the Gunze kit?" Heh, I have to pass; I have not built one yet. FWIW, I am a real novice returning builder; I have to get my skills in shape (especially re gluing) before I am willing to tackle a kit like this. However, I have heard (read online) the kit "damned wih faint praise"--i.e., the assembly details include a brass tubing frame, and numerous pot metal castings that require a lot of cleanup. How much that matters to a newbie like me, I don't know--I still enjoy mundane cleanup. Try googling on this topic, and go deep into the results. I have been reading here for the past several days, and I have found other comments about various topics with google, if I go deep enough. Jim H.
texastomeh Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 1. Pete J.- Thanx for the tip and link!! 2. jfh - Heh, I have to pass; I have not built one yet. Appreciate the honest candid response!! Sometimes they seem sorta' hard to come by. Has anyone out there actually built one of the Gunze Kits? If so, I actively solicit you input and opinion. thanx, texastomeh
MrObsessive Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I have both the Harold Bradford kit and the Gunze kit I can tell you that Harold's version is MUCH NICER! He started with the Gunze kit, and made it MUCH better! There's no fiddling with getting the chassis glued (or soldered) together as in the original, no soft to bend white metal parts, and he even gives you nice reference photos for detailing. The price is VERY well worth it! Click here to get a close up look at what all you get. Also you can click here to see a fantastic buildup of the car. I know of no one, (including myself) that's actually built the Gunze kit.............if you're a novice at this, I'd highly recommend getting your skills up to par as that kit's not for the faint of heart. While the Model Factory Hiro's kits are nice, IMO they tend to be heavy handed in the molding of their bodies and other parts...............I'm not sure the kits are worth the 260 bucks that they're going for.............
Tommy Kortman Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I gotta go with Bill on this one. I had 2 of the Gunze Kits. When Harold came out with his, I got rid of both of them. Harold's is by far the best I've seen.
