vizio93 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I was thinking about maybe thanksgiving weekend myself? Maybe thats too far off. discuss? hey man that sounds great. that would definately give us some time to build.
FujimiLover Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Hey guy's don't forget the Cannonball Run build-off either. This is one reason why I gave it a full year to give every body a chance to participate in it now that we have about three build-off's going on at once. Should be lot's of fun! I want to go for Nicolas Cage's Eleanor if I can find the right kit for it. Anybody know what kit to use for her? Isn't there an actual kit based on the movie car? Edited July 23, 2009 by FujimiLover
dwc43 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I see you have the DVD with the special features too Yes, I finally got a copy this year, but I knew a lot of the facts before hand. You could say I am a fan. I had the original on tape along with some of this otehr movies like the "Junkman". Some of that was taped at his house and you can see the original Eleanor sitting in the corner with the Gone logo painted on it.

All you need is a '67 GT350 kit and add the window scoop to it and get a resin hood. I have a link somewhere that has a resin hood for it, but I don't remember who made it. I bet someone hear knows, cause I got the link from here.

The Red Ranger Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 hey fujimi, go talk to "oldman23" (Ernie) he has this amt/ertl 1967 shelby gt350 with the side windows!!!!! http://s700.photobucket.com/albums/ww5/old...nt=IMG_0508.jpg Well with the Drift, which I am participating in, and the Cannonball build off (I don't know the end date for that) is Thanksgiving enough time for you guys to complete the models for those builds and this one? We can make it longer if need be. I'd like to get as many people on this build so we can have a lot of the cars. My idea was to have pictures of the boosted cars together in one kind of collected thing ya know?
Jantrix Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 IMCDB has a slightly different list for the Nic Cage Gi60secs. http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=187078 Check it out. Sadly I don't think I have any of these rides in my stash at htis time, so I'll be watching this one.
vizio93 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Thanksgiving is a good timeline for me. yea would we do it on thanksgiving day or the following friday because i might be out of town on thurs. (some people might be too). so if we could do it on fri. ?
The Red Ranger Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 yea would we do it on thanksgiving day or the following friday because i might be out of town on thurs. (some people might be too). so if we could do it on fri. ? Let's make the cut off November 28th. It's that Saturday after turkey day. That way if people go out of town they have some time to get it worked out and such. I know some people probably will have their's built much earlier but I may end up taking a stab at two kits if we don't get an abundance of people on this, which I encourage for anyone capable of doing so. But I think the 28th is fair. That is 4 months I think that is a good chunk for this build. November 28th is Gone in Sixty Seconds day. I think to celebrate this build off we should all watch Gone in Sixty Seconds that weekend. hehe.
The Red Ranger Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 Is it me or does the Porsche 911 twin turbo seem to be a wrong designation. All research I can find points that the Porsche twin turbo models were 993s, not 911's. I think I may not understand exactly how they come up with these numbers. Anyone care to educate me? I grew up in a house that only believed in muscle so these bizarro futuristic european cars are all new to me lol.
moparmagiclives Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 ............anyone have a cobra they're not going to build or want to trade off ?

My idea was to have pictures of the boosted cars together in one kind of collected thing ya know? The end date to the Cannonball Run build-off is in the morning of the exact date that Farra Fawcette pased away. I'll see if I can get the exact date on that event. I won't go by exact time on the clock but I say no later by high-noon on that day. So there is still plenty of time for everybody to get their kit and join in on the fun. I still have not got my kit yet. I might do Blake and Fenderbaum's red Ferrari in the first movie if I can find it. I will look for the proper GT for Memphis's unicorn.
The Red Ranger Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 I'm down for Ashly if shes not taken. Ashly is not taken cause no one has PM'd me so yeah. You still want her cause she's yours if you do.
SSNJim Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Is it me or does the Porsche 911 twin turbo seem to be a wrong designation. All research I can find points that the Porsche twin turbo models were 993s, not 911's. They're 911's built between 1993 and 1998. The Porschephiles tend to refer to the 911 by its internal Porsche project number. Each more modern revision of the 911 gets a new number. The original 1964 911 was the 901, followed by the 930, 964, 993, 996, and the current 997, but they were all sold as the Porsche 911. The 993 was the last air-cooled 911; all subsequent are water cooled.

Slightly off topic, but I still see 934's as 911's cause they share the same physical shape with minor differences in bumpers and rear wing. The 934 just look's like a more aggressive 911. I like Porsches of all types from the early Le Man's 917 to the latest 911 GT3 which is probably my favorite of all Porsches by now.
The Red Ranger Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 Okay I need some help. Im doing a 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo. The closest kit I have found is the 911 Gt2 road kit. The 959 is a distant second. I did find a 97 turbo that a guy modified to look similar to a GT2, so I am going with that personally. Any opinions?

It's a 993. 934 was a group 4 race car hugely different than a 930. 930 was the old air-cooled Turbo. 935 was also a race car but group 5. Edited July 24, 2009 by CAL

Also for the record, I know that they werent the same car, but aesthetically speaking they it looked closer than other model I could find.

I think it's OOP but even aesthetically they are miles apart.
The Red Ranger Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 Ebay. I think it's OOP but even aesthetically they are miles apart. They are very much different but it's the closest I found at the time. I had never heard of Italeri before today. If anyone ever find this kit please let me know asap. None on ebay right now, I am searching up and down to find it.
The Red Ranger Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 What is OOP? I found the 911 Carrera, but I can't find the 911 Turbo.... Could I use the Carrera and turn it into the turbo? I found a few differences as far as turn signal placement, and it looks like the tail lights are different too, so I'm thinking no. Also I discovered that Revell Germany made a 911 Turbo, item number 07300, but those are even harder to find it seems than the Italeri. I suppose I have bout a month to find it cause I have my drift Skyline but if anyone knows where one, please let me know.
FujimiLover Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I was just searching ebay last night for some model's of Eleanor and discovered that you can buy a real-life 1/1 scale replica of the actual car used in the movie. It cost some where around $100,000 didn't get exact price tag, but it was way up there. Yep! Some company that builds replica cars is offering a real-life Eleanor! I thought it was pretty cool and though I'd share it with you guy's. Just simply search Eleanor on ebay, and choose to view higher-priced items first. It's up there!

They use old fastbacks and buld them up, there are three levels of car you get, highest one being the Supersnake. These cars are actually Shelby cars, they get a Shelby serial number, and the whole shebang. Also I found the Italeri Porsche! So I am definitely on for the build still! Woohoo. Between this, my drift, and my truck builds I am good for a while I think. Edited July 26, 2009 by The Red Ranger
