Well I thought that it would be nice if we did a tribute community build to the 40th anniversary of the summer of '69.

PLEASE READ THE RULE CAREFULLY

Am I the only one confused? A "summer of '69 truck community build off" where only 5 trucks will be let in, the rest being cars?....

Not at all, I would have thought that a "Summer of '69 TRUCK Community Build Off" would have a cut-off of those models that their 1:1 counterparts were available in or prior to the SUMMER of '69. And that being it is the Truck Community sponsoring the Build-off that it would be TRUCKS!

Guess it must be that new math!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok this was meant to be only car but I made an acception by letting in one truck so to be fair I'm going to let four more truck entries in that's it.

i think you need to go back and edit the title

why are you ONLY letting 5 trucks into this community build? if this is the "Summer of '69" cumminuty group build then it should be any car or truck, maybe even motorcycles that could have been on the road in the summer months of 1969. i'd even go so far as to add boats to that list as well as there are some nice boat kits out there with trailers that represent pre-'70 styles and that could have been in use during the "summer of '69"

Dave

Just noticed how i put truck in there, wow that's a big gramatical error, thanks for pointing that out. I really only want car and trucks from that year or earlyier in the condition or look they would be in '69.

 So basically, any car older than 1969?... Cause my 1953 Mercury is still on the road in it's stock guise, but it's 1969 A.D.

I'm just trying to understand, since I might be interested in building something for this...

'69 or older Ryan. but you would have to portray tipically what the vehicle would look like by '69.

for instance a '49 mercury by '69 would be 20 years old, with around 200 000 miles with a typical driver, I'm going off what they say, they say that the average driver puts

10 000 miles a year on a car.

Not that it matters a whole lot, but very few 49 mercs made it to 200,000 miles. People didn't drive NEARLY as much back then. Another thing is you say it has to be domestic and not a sub-compact, but how many VW's were floating around in '69? I guess what I'm trying to get at is what exactly are you trying to capture with the vehicles in this build? 1969 was a whole lot different than now, and I think if you want to really capture the time period you have to open it up more.

I read the rules carefully, and those two rules made me think you were not around for the summer of '69(a quick peek at your profile confirmed that).

My family lived in the town of West Hurley NY, about 2 miles south of Woodstock, and less than a half hour from Yasgur's farm in Bethel.....my folks had 2 Beetles, and in the sumer of '69 you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting some sort of European compact car(911, 356, Triumph, MG, Healy, VW, etc.).

Here's a shot from Bethel when the Woodstock festival was going on.....looks like a few imports and compacts snuck in

I'm not into joining the build, but the narrow scope of the rules really caught my attention.

well I started on my superbee today, I painted all the flat black and satin black which turned out to be 97% of the kit. Of the 65 parts only 20 aren't flat or satin black. I deceided to do the car a dark green.

Here's all the black engine and under hood parts painted

dodgestreettruck027.jpg

Here's all the black suspension parts painted

dodgestreettruck025.jpg

Here's the hood painted with the hood scoop mounted

dodgestreettruck024.jpg

Here's all the interior parts painted

dodgestreettruck023.jpg

And here's the brochure for '70 which was the only one I could find after 3 hours of searching. I circled in red the color im painting it but If I can't find it I might paint it the color on the left of the one circled in red.

Great job on the paint, 'cuz. I have one of these, too. I'm anxious to start on my nova, but I need to find some pictures of the actual car.

Well I was around in 1969 and I can tell you that there were a whole variety of vehicles that were on the road then.

From brand new GTO Judges, Roadrunners and Javelin SST 390's to early '60's Corvairs and Ramblers, to mid '50's Detroit iron I can definitely remember seeing. You also had your VW's which were everywhere, and also your oddball import such as Renaults, Peugeots, Volvos, Saabs, etc.

In searching my childhood memory, I'd say the streets were more interesting to look at then as opposed to now as you weren't bombarded with every other vehicle being a truck or SUV like now. :P
