diymirage Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Hey like I told you Eelco you can go ahead and break the rules seeing your our rule breaker. speaking of breaking rules as we speak the glue on the turbo and intercooler for my FOURBANGER is drying i also gutted the radiator out of an old eclipse so i can run it on the wildcart i also added a little more putty to the body, hopefully that will fill the gaps and soon she'll be ready for paint i also wanted to start one more sentence with "i also" i also talked to a board member about getting some custom decals for the cart
Blake Rogers Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 (edited) I still see that NO ONE that orignally joined still has replyed except for diymirage. Come on, is it REALLY that hard to let dukefan69' know whats going on with your entry? I mean there was some great builds on here that where coming along great and it feels like now that the only participants are new guys, not the guys who decide to participate from the begining. well i just need to take some more photo's of mine should be done most of it by next weekend (i can be quick at building something) just need to figure out color wise is really the problem i am having maybe flat gray or black bottom half and have the top half met blue hmmmm? diymirage Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 so um.. heyyyy... question.. where'd you get the turbo? i need to get some lol i custom build one i basically popped the hood on the 'sat ,took a good long look and figured i can do this Ok cool, get some pictures. Ok cool i will soon i hope, but none of the progress has been put together yet to the point where it shows i also wasnt happy with the body work yet so more filling and sanding is needed
MikeMc Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 dumb question mike how did you mask that so well as my whoa MAD is going to be tricky with all its curves Use 6mm tamiya tape or 1/8 fineline by 3m.....I like to warm the tape up on a windowsill before I use it...seems to bend real smooth, I also burnish the edge right before shooting. A mist of clear intercoat on the edge will stop bleedthru.
wgflatliner Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 well i got the rest of the materials needed to build the motor/drivetrain. it'll still be a secret though
diymirage Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 well i got the rest of the materials needed to build the motor/drivetrain. it'll still be a secret though whenever anyone says that i automatically think C6 corvette drivetrain so you better bust out the allison V12 and impress me
wgflatliner Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 whenever anyone says that i automatically think C6 corvette drivetrain so you better bust out the allison V12 and impress me good thing it's a secret. i guarantee you it's not that though.
rollinoldskoo Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 ok i'll toss this into the mix.... try to get it done in time.... spent the last week in the hospital so now i got some rest time and build time....
JamesW Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 ok i'll toss this into the mix.... try to get it done in time.... spent the last week in the hospital so now i got some rest time and build time.... Lookin good Gil. You need to hook me up with some bags.
wgflatliner Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 alright so my 55 stepside from AMT has crumbled in quite the literal fashion. so instead of calling it quits i just purchased a 55 chevy cameo pickup and plan on transplanting the goodies to the new piece. i still plan on having this done by the deadline.
diymirage Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Ok cool, get some pictures. per request here is what i have been up to this weekend i got the supra rear end mounted to the frame this gave me the exact location of everything else so i installed the radiator (was a lil bit afraid it might not clear the hood but there turned out to be plenties of room) i got the intercooler build and the turbo hooked up build the exhaust put the intake manifold in and ran the charge pipes (the engine and intercooler are one unit now but not yet mounted to the frame) did i mention i also managed to slap on some paint the yellow is not as bright as i hoped it would (hopefully some clear will make it pop) there is also a little bit of orange overspray (freehanded it) but in general im pretty pleased with it so far (keeping in mind in just getting started scratchbuilding) i also talked to a board member about getting some custom decals so there is still more coming (i forgot to ad a picture of the dash, that is the largest single piece of this kit that will NOT be modified)
wgflatliner Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 i got the intercooler build and the turbo hooked up build the exhaust put the intake manifold in and ran the charge pipes (the engine and intercooler are one unit now but not yet mounted to the frame) could i give you a quick tip? i know i'm not a modeling pro but i do know a LOT about turbo systems and how they work. on the turbo, looking at the pic i quoted: the pipe you got going towards the passenger door - you have that going to an air filter.. that pipe should actually be the pipe that dumps down to the exhaust. the pipe you have going to the front should be going to the air filter instead of the intercooler there needs to be a piece coming off the housing of the turbo that should run to the intercooler here's a pic of my turbo on my real car: the port with the fins (if it were on your model) goes to the air filter the port going off to the left goes to the intercooler the port you can't see on the back of the turbo goes to the exhaust, like the following pic: you do have the other pipe from the intercooler to the intake manifold correct. i hope this helps, and i apologize if i offend you for trying to give you a tip. hehe

diymirage Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 that bug needs 4x4 wheels/tires.... yes it would, but i had the rear end that you see on it with the matching front rims so i just made do unless you wanna donate a nice ofroad combo
