CAL Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Has anyone built this kit? Any suprises? I have one, haven't built it. Yes, it's a curbside but there is a transkit for it.
elan Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 I wondered why they are so cheap on e-bay. Who make the transkit?
Zoom Zoom Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 (edited) Harold Bradford/Historic Racing Miniatures makes the full transkit; scroll down a bit and you'll find it. HRM page from Strada Sports The basic curbside 330 kit is quite decent. It will take extra detailing quite nicely. Here's the one I built during the 24 hours of LeMans: Ferrari 412P NART LeMans Racer (based on Fujimi 330 P3 kit) Edited August 10, 2009 by Zoom Zoom
Crazy Ed Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hi Elan FWIW there's a Union Ferrari 330 P4 kit out there that's full detail that shows up on E-Bay alot. Ed

Ed It's cheaper just to get the Fujimi kit and the trans kit than it is to try and pick up a Union kit, which by time you're all said and done shipped they are $75 if you find a steal and closer to $100 average. ScaleCentral Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Here's the engine transkit. It is well worth it... HRM Engine Kit Fujimi's kit is more proportionate. I have gotten a MFH 330P4 and a 412. I would recommend getting Fujimi's kit and the engine kit over any 330P4 by MFH. If you want a 412, you'll either have to modify the kit and the engine or get the MFH kits. I kept my 412, but sold the 330P4, lol. Nic
george 53 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Jody,Cal, DON'T give up on the Bay. I bought the Ferrari P-4 330 by Union Models just this year in Feb/Mar, an I only paid about 50 bucks for it WITH p/h! It mighta been less, caz I set a limit on what I'll spend for something, an when I read here about this kit, I thought I'd look for it. I found it pretty reasonable myself, an it's a FULL detailed kit! VERY NICE! I do have yet to build it,but it DOES look real nice. Anyone out there build it yet? Is it hard? like the old IMC Ford GT/Lola/Chaparral kits? LOVED them kits, jus HATED buildin 'em!!!

Pocher are running down though $600s compaired to last Nov-Dec everyone I bid on closed at well over $1000.00. My holyest of grails still eludes me, a Wire wheel Pocher Mercedes. I passed one up in the 90s when I was going to college for $500, and I have bid on several. I am just not paying a grand for one.
george 53 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Yeeesh! a GRAND???? I'm assumeing it's out of production, yes? Man I know theyre HIGHLY detailed, but man, A $1000.00 dollars??? I can understand your reluctance! Hope you can find one at a more liveable price!
elan Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 Thanks guys for all your help. I think I will go with the Fujimi kit with the trans kit. I too am lusting after a Pocher kit and I too can't justify the money. For a company that went out of business years ago there are a lot of kits on e-bay. I'm glad to hear the prices are going down, maybe if they go down enough I'll score one.

One company owns the tools but another owns exclusive rights to Mercedes model kits. There is a mint one for $1400.00 now. I am not interested in a reissue with plastic wheels. They skimped on a bunch of brake and engine details, and those go for over $500 ++

I doubt they well ever go below $500 for a plastic wheel reissue, and $750 for a wire, and $1000 for a mint condition on. I have been looked for 3 years and never seen any for less unless they were damaged, started, or incomplete.
elan Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 I've looked at the started and incomplete ones, but I read somewhere that replacement parts don't exist unless you buy a 'parts' car. There doesn't seem like there is much of an internet support group for these, most sites seem to be other people selling incomplete or started kits. Unless it's one I've yet to find.
simonr Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 This is mine, the Union's 330 P4. Considering it's an almost 40 years old mold I guess it does a pretty decent model. I my personal opinion that i had built both the 917k and this 330, the 330 is much better model than the 917k, both model, high tech models in their era. Simón P. Rivera Torres Has anyone built this kit? Any suprises?
elan Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 I have the Fujimi 917 stashed away (somewhere). I see they make a transkit for it also. May have to spring for both.

If you want pics of that engine too, I can take them. I have almost the entire HRM line so if you want to see something. His stuff is so great, I can't pass them up. Nic
